I just noticed that Filmstruck has Les choses de la vie (The Things of Life) available to stream until November. It doesn't have the 'C' included with its selection when searched on so I am not sure if that is bad news or not for an eventual Criterion release, but if anyone has the time and a Filmstruck account - check out this wonderful film from Claude Sautet starring the great Michel Piccoli.

It's absolutely one of my five favorite films. It was remade (or the novel was adapted again, however you want to play it) in the early 90s into Intersection starring Richard Gere and Sharon Stone - although nowhere near as good as this.

In the French countryside on a summer morning, a lorry full of pigs stalls at a crossroads. An Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint swerves to avoid it and crashes into an orchard, hurling the driver onto the grass. As he loses consciousness, he revisits the essential things which made up his life.
I'm hoping Criterion is actually able to release a few Sautet films like this one and Max and the Junkmen.

I feel like Taxi Driver & Spartacus will eventually happen because they’ve already existed in the line. A rerelease of Spartacus on Blu is almost certain since they’ll have access to it through Universal and it already is in the current spine lineup. Taxi Driver just seems likely based on the Laserdisc they put out.

That said, The Lady Eve will also happen sooner or later for the same reason as Spartacus.

Only bought three titles in the criterion sale this time. I've just gone region free as there were too many titles that I couldn't get on blu ray this side of the pond. What really struck me is how much cheaper most of the titles are in region B- and of lot of them are films that would be criterion releases in region A. I'm just really happy I took the plunge.

The USD/GBP exchange rate has certainly made buying from Amazon in the UK very attractive over the past 12-18 months. And so many fantastic releases from BFI, StudioCanal, Arrow, MoC, Network, and others.

I visit this thread so often; crossing my fingers that we will soon get news of the Criterion Godzilla box set.

Most of these seem likely except for Straight Story, which is with Buena Vista. If this does get released out of the blue, it means that there is a deal with BV. If another BV title gets released, it means it is a distinct possibility.

I reckon this would be most likely to be released in June or July in time for that particular Barnes and Noble sale, while the Bergman set will be the only big box set for the November sale to encourage more people to buy that. Although I do know that Criterion releases don't revolve around B&N sales.

Hoping Criterion upgrades Z and Missing soon I dont think there are any particular barriers, both released HD elsewhere and also HD on filmstruck I believe.

I'm curious if Criterion would be the ones to do The Day the Clown Cried, when it is released down the road.

Speaking of fave 80s movies, I would love to see Diner get a refresh. The current WHV release could be improved on, both in PQ and extras.

Having only bought 3 titles last week I found myself on the last day of the sale today in Murfreesboro TN (900 miles away from my actual home in PA) and of course the gravitational pull of the local B&N sucked me into its vortex and of course they only had 2 titles that I had really wanted (The Lodger and The Killing) and I should have stopped there but my illness wouldn't allow just a two purchase day, so I grabbed Black Narcissus and Straw Dogs (both of which I have never seen but am sure I am going to love). Damn you Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale, Damn you to hell !!!

I would like to see Criterion tackle some serious 90's culture, and a beautiful way to do this would be to release the complete series of Beavis and Butthead completely uncut and uncensored with all the original music videos. That and all the extras they could stack up with it would make it a ginormous set.

But I know, it'll never happen, for many reasons.

Maybe Shout Factory could handle that. Seems like it'd be up their alley.

Criterion ought to put out True Lies since nobody else is. In fact, make it a double feature with the original film that inspired it (I forget what it was, wasn't it something French)?

In all due seriousness, I can foresee a few 90s films being up Criterion's alley--I'd advocate for Pi, SLC Punk, Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai, Open Your Eyes, What About Bob?, A Bronx Tale, Ringu, the original Japanese version of Shall We Dance?, the original Funny Games, and of course Lost Highway.

I sorta wonder if they could reacquire the rights for Armageddon, The Rock, Chasing Amy, Hard Boiled, The Killer, and RoboCop, but I'm not sure if any of these are possible anymore (maybe the John Woo ones, that would be sweet).
