I think February will be big as well (sale month, so they need anchors), but there's no way Detour will be announced.

It hasn't even toured yet, seems like they're only kickstarting the Janus tour now as they recently released the poster and press book for it. Wanda toured before it and hasn't been announced yet either.

Just based on the Kino thread, I think that Criterion will backdoor-announce that they have a deal with StudioCanal by announcing "La Strada", or maybe "Ran".

I could see Nights of Cabiria as a possibility as well.

They did tweet out the poster a few months ago...

Some Arrow/Eureka titles can get as low as Ł7.5

If there is a Studiocanal deal then I would assume this would be a possibility. Though I would think films like Ran would be a bigger possibility to be released first. Or a reprint of a film such as The Third Man. Personally, I rather see another film than Le Grande Illusion released right away then Grand Illusion later.

The KL Insider said that the film Darling was with MGM. This would be a good Criterion release and one that has been hard to get in the US as its been OOP for quite a while.

Astaire-Rogers trilogy. The current WB A Star is Born is already the extensive must have version and IDK how Criterion could really outdo that release. Also, the early Maurice Chevalier musicals would have my second vote.

Here’s hoping for WANDA. Eventually, if not February.

La Strada is still in print, so it’s not Canal.

I don't see Criterion picking up Suddenly, Last Summer when TT's license expires. The Heiress, A Place in the Sun and/or Freud would be great gets.
Yeah, I agree with your assessment of his part. A likeable character he played (especially in light of Catharine’s money hungry family), but as far as what he was given to work with from a performance standpoint, pretty cut and dry. Not that Award noms are always indicative of greatness, but seeing Liz and Kate getting Best Actress nods should have been my first clue. Both were very good, especially at the end. Only Kate Hepburn could pull off floating down to the ground floor in a human sized dumb waiter!

I loved the film. Poor Joseph Mankiewicz, though. Liz showing up late on set, and other assorted production issues, gave him a myriad of medical problems, ones that reappeared when he did Cleopatra immediately afterwords.

I'm not sure who owns the US rights, but I thought that the hold-up for "La Strada" getting a Blu upgrade was that Studio Canal owns the 4k restoration.

Maybe Canal did a restoration, but Janus has it according to their site.

That would be a lovely set althought The Grand Budapest Hotel has already an excellent edition from Fox...

IŽd love to see Criterion releasing The 13th Warrior
, with both the theatrical cut and the original cut from McTiernan, an in-depth documentary about the shooting of this (quite) underrated epic tale, if the original material is in good condition or can be restored.

I know that a film like this is not what everybody would expect from a boutique label like Criterion, but heck, if they released The Rock...
