031 Great Expectations
032 Oliver Twist
041 Henry V
082 Hamlet
086 Eisenstein: The Sound Years **
087 Alexander Nevsky **
088 Ivan the Terrible, Part 1 / Ivan the Terrible, Part 2 **
100 Beastie Boys Video Anthology ** (May not be able to do HD of these films if shot and/or edited on video, but then again I used to feel the same about Hoop Dreams)
113 Big Deal on Madonna Street **
126 Ordet
134 Häxan
148 Ballad of a Soldier
159 Red Beard
185 The Adventures of Antoine Doinel **
186 Stolen Kisses **
187 Bed & Board **
188 Love on the Run **
170 Trouble in Paradise
215 Knife in the Water
224 Pickup on South Street
268 Youth of the Beast
282 Andrzej Wajda: Three War Films **
283 A Generation **
284 Kanal **
285 Ashes & Diamonds **
287 Burden of Dreams
310 Samurai Rebellion
311 Sword of the Beast
313 Kill!
319 The Bad Sleep Well **
334 Harlan County, U.S.A.
378 Fires on the Plain
379 The Burmese Harp
413 Drunken Angel
428 Blast of Silence
443 La Ronde
444 La Plaisir
491 Z
528 3 Silent Classics by Josef von Sternberg **
529 Underworld **
530 The Last Command **
531 The Docks of New York **

I also own 495 The Golden Age of Television, but I can't see a Blu-ray release for this title in the future. I also don't think I'd upgrade my Paul Robeson set (369-373) if they upgraded it.

As far as the OOP DVD titles I'd pick up if they got the rights back:

008 The Killer (Would love for Criterion to get the rights back to this for a proper release)
009 Hard-Boiled (see The Killer above)
067 The Blood of a Poet ** (StudioCanal - should be coming from some label, maybe Criterion)
069 Testament of Orpheas ** (SC)
189 The White Sheik ** (SC)
227 Le Corbeau ** (SC)
238 A Woman Is a Woman ** (SC)
318 Forbidden Games ** (SC)

All other SC titles I would get are seemingly coming through Kino, which is great news, or have good editions from Lionsgate (Grand Illusion, That Obscure Object of Desire, etc.)

As far as upcoming titles, I really hope they can wrap up the Chaplin titles soon, as it's been too long, and all that is left is A Woman of Paris, The Circus, The Chaplin Revue (and the associated short films), and A King of New York, the latter of which I'd probably pass on if released individually. And there's a ton of Harold Lloyd titles I'm waiting on, with the three big ones for me being Girl Shy, Movie Crazy and The Milky Way. I'm also super excited for their upcoming release of Keaton's The Cameraman, and I'm hoping they include Spite Marriage as a bonus feature on that release.

I'd also love Diary of a Lost Girl, but that could very well be a rights issue. I don't know. But my DVD is Kino.
I believe were going to see Pandora's Box since it got a new restoration last year and when I watched it on TCM last December it had the Janus logo but IDK if it was the new restoration. Diary of a Lost Girl is on BluRay released by Kino.

I would love to have the following in bold, the others that you listened I am content to buy the Region B releases. I myself just picked up Youth of the Beast. I'm probably going to buy the UK Region B releases of the Chaplins. Even though there's a Region B release of Shoot the Piano Player which I probably will pick up eventually, I still want a Criterion BluRay of that. Finally, I love and BD of Renoir's La Bête humaine which the Criterion DVD is still in print even though it has the old Canal+ logo after the Janus/Criterion logo.

I would seriously like to upgrade my 20 year old non-anamorphic copy of Kiarostami's Taste of Cherry. Anyone know what the story is with that title?

What do you mean by 'story'? It's been restored and will be touring later this year, which means that Criterion will probably release an upgrade later on.

Rumor is. I think his son inferred that Abbas Kiarostrami will receive a big boxset too!

Thanks a lot.

I could swear I looked for Diary of a Lost Girl and didn't find it. Maybe I was dreaming. But that's good news.

Does anyone know what the first printing means on the cases? Has there only been one print run or what's the deal on that?

It means exactly what it says. If the first print run is exhausted then you have the 2nd printing and so on. Except for the Dual BluRay/DVD when those initial print runs run out they will re-release them individually as BluRay only and DVD only.

It’s not good news since Kino screwed up the US release by stretching it to the wrong aspect ratio. The region B Eureka disc is great though.

The Z disc is listed as out of print. Looks like my hopes of an upgrade from Criterion have been dashed. Hopefully someone picks it up! I want more Gavras on Blu!

Just give me The Lady Eve and Hamlet, as far as upgrades go, and I'll be happy for a while.

I agree about Chaplin and The Cameraman. 100%

I'm importing more and more from Eureka. Their Masters of Cinema line is fantastic.

I'm a big Gilliam fan myself; the laserdisc package and extras of Munchausen were my favorite in my collection;, but I admit I feel Zemen's Munchausen is the best and most enjoyable version of the three I know of. It's been my most wanted title in the collection on my CC page for years. It's a lot of fun with nice humor and visuals that, to use a very old expression, will blow your mind.

I ended up buying it last year from Second Run UK but still would love to see it join the collection.

I was kinda thinking that but how does Criterion know how much to print in the first run?

They likely go by a specific pressing number for each title. When copies run out they have more pressed.

Also, I was under the impression ALL Criterion stuff says "First Printing" unless packaging changes or discs get errors fixed. Then they change to "Second Printing" and so on. That text doesn't seem to denote pressing numbers like print run numbers for books.

Curious why Criterion haven't released more of the Ozu library on BD yet. Here in the UK for example we've had my favourite Ozu film 'Floating Weeds' for years. Would love to replace it with a Criterion release as well. I had hoped with the release of 'Good Morning' that we might actually start to see many more titles but it seems the classic Japanese Cinema releases have slowed down considerably.

On another note Criterion should try to get ahold of more classic Chinese Cinema. 'Raise the Red Latern' and 'Farewell My Concubine' both deserve to be in the collection. I mean it'd just be great to have an English Blu Ray for the former.
