'Cold War' was my favourite film of last year. Instant purchase! Thank you Criterion!

I encourage you give it another look. The first time I saw it, I was actually pretty disappointed because I expected it to be in the same vein as The Parallax View. On subsequent viewings, I've come to really enjoy it. For me, the plot is somewhat inconsequential (though it does have some intriguing developments if you are invested enough) but the mood and atmosphere, particularly the music and cinematography, are what really do it for me. The only part of the movie I disliked, and this is very minor, was the

“All About Eve” is kind of a disappointment. The old Blu still looks good.

I'm definitely good for a double-dip on All About Eve, although I'm hard-pressed to see how the picture could improve noticeably.

Betty Blue and Cold War both look quite nice as well.

My understanding is the original Fox All About Eve is a 4K master. So in all likelihood this release will use the same master. Honestly a waste if you ask me other then Criterion wanting just for the sake of wanting it in their collection.

Fonda's performance and cinematography are what make the film. In particular, I really like her scenes in therapy.

I like Klute, but The Parallax View is my favorite thriller of the 1970s. The wide angle shots are gorgeous and deserve some HD lovin'.
Hopefully it will get a release soon.

Yes, and it looks like the same special features... but hey, it will sell well because people love to have that Criterion logo on their shelf.

Gotta be that guy, sorry.

I'm a teeny bit disappointed with this announcement.

Usually, November is a banner month for me, but not this time.

I've got a couple of these, and am not that interested as of now in a couple of others.

Oh well, I'm happy if someone else is thrilled about these, good for you.

This a much better slate of titles than October's. That's for sure.

Totally don't get the point of a Criterion All About Eve (pretty happy with my DigiBook), and I already own the UK BD of Cold War. Don't feel like I need to own the other Bette Davis film, either.

I'm sure many will be understandably happy with those announcements, though. Good for them.

Probably the worst month of the year. All About Eve is a confusing release and waste of a spine number. Daytrippers? Meh.

The Criterion release of All About Eve carries over many of the extras from the Fox release. There are a couple of extras on the Fox that aren't on the Criterion and vice versa. For film music aficionados, the Fox release has an isolated score track. In fact, the releases are so similar, the Criterion is almost a non-release, unless you absolutely have to have that wacky C.

I'm good with the Fox release, which is still in print, BTW.

Here's this sites review of PQ of the previous release of All About Eve:

Quote:
With a 1080p/AVC-encoded transfer that's absolutely pristine, it's clear that All About Eve has been given a thoughtful restoration. There's not a speck of debris or hint of damage on the print—okay, maybe one or two white flecks—and the image itself looks entirely natural, showing no evidence of excess DNR, edge enhancement, or contrast boosting. Director Joseph Mankiewicz was never known as a visual stylist, but there are some wonderful shots where he uses light and shadow to full effect, shots that really show off this transfer's deep blacks, crisp-but-not-overblown whites, and punchy gradient of grays. Sharpness is variable, but this seems to be a product of the way the film was shot. Some close-ups—especially of the female actors— feature flattering soft-focus, which removes finer details like pores or wrinkles. That said, there are also some fantastically crisp scenes that let you make out the fuzzy textures of fur coats and the individual stitches on herringbone wool blazers. Overall, it looks wonderful, and certainly a huge improvement on the DVD. Plus, sitting comfortably on a dual-layer 50 GB disc, there are no compression quirks or other encode issues to fret over.
I can't imagine why Criterion would even bother, unless they have some incredible extras that they're going to offer.

I'd rather have A Letter to Three Wives (Mostly because I don't own the Fox blu already like I do with Eve) but I suppose Fox did well with that blu-ray from what I gather.
