Here are some possibilities (not counting the impending box sets).

POTENTIAL UPGRADES
Street of Shame
The Naked City
The Ascent
Two or Three Things I Know About Her
Masculin Feminin
Il Posto

HIGHLY PROBABLE NEW RELEASES
Come and See
Toni
Los Olvidados

LESS PROBABLE NEW RELEASES
Miracle in Milan
Moulin Rouge
Way of a Gaucho

DARK HORSES
Death of a Bureaucrat
The House is Black
The Hour of the Furnaces
Enamorada
Lucia
Pixote
Chronicle of the Years of Fire

*My only reason for picking these is that they all have somewhat recent restorations.

Oh sorry haha. I’m an idiot

The one I’m thinking of is probably Great Escape, Come and See

I’d like Career Girls or High Hopes from Mike Leigh

Memories of Murder would make my year

For upgrades I’ll guess Ratcatcher or The Hit

THE GREAT ESCAPE would be amazing, as long as it's got a new, improved restoration.

Just a guess though. May is usually just individual releases with most boxes happening in February, July, October, and November.
I agree that all of the boxes will be announced by March 2021, and the May connection would definitely be a nice touch for the Varda box.

Bet on The Great Escape soon, too, and I would also love to see a Burden of Dreams upgrade. The potential return of more StudioCanal titles following Army of Shadows is also really exciting.

I know the channel doesn’t always mean something but seeing Contempt on there made me really want Criterion to get it back from Canal and do a bluray

Spectrum cable and internet are down in the Northeast. I can't watch any streaming service right now, including The Criterion Channel. It's not clear how long it may be out. This, my friends, is why I will always have physical media. Time to go pick out a Criterion title from my collection to watch.

That would be great, especially given the so-so quality of the existing blu-ray. Wouldn’t kill them to throw in Pierrot le Fou while they were at it.

It’s also been a while since we’ve had a Lynch, Kurosawa, or Altman movie...not that that’s anything to go by.

Well, seeing as Contempt is one of my very few favorite films, nothing would make me happier than seeing that sometime soon.

A Dark Horse (pun intended) release I’d like to see would be The Rocking Horse Winner. I believe it’s been shown on The Criterion Channel but hasn’t had a disc upgrade since a very old and expensive DVD.

Plus I think you get a year free of Apple TV + tv shows if you buy a new one
Thanks, Frag. Eyeing the 64GB 4k Apple TV model.

Winchester 73 and the great escape will both be released before most of these titles.

I was trying to list films that haven't already been confirmed via newsletter, so that's why I didn't include The Great Escape. Winchester 73 does seem imminent, especially with Destry Rides Again just getting announced, so that's one I probably just missed.

I would love to see Criterion release this. I read the short story in college (a million years ago) and saw the movie on TV a few years later. It's a heartbreaking story, and one of D.H. Lawrence's very best.

So.... is UHD just not happening at this point?

Shout releasing Deer Hunter gave me a small sliver of hope...

Has there been any sort of confirmation that Winchester '73 is coming from Criterion? I only ask because I would be elated to see it happen—it's probably the best of the westerns that Anthony Mann and Jimmy Stewart made together (I would love to see The Naked Spur happen as well).

There hasn't been any confirmation that I've heard about. It's just rumored they have the rights to it.

I really hope there is a WWII themed month with Come and See, the Great Escape, Fires on the Plain, and the Human Condition Trilogy.

Also, hopefully we get some upgrades on the Hit and Under the Volcano. Oh and Samurai Rebellion, and Drunken Angel, and...

I'm really surprised Criterion hasn't released The Human Condition Trilogy on Blu-ray here yet. If they use the same restoration as the UK and JP BDs, it'll be a great release. Hopefully they create a lot of new extras- if they do, I may double dip on it.
