While any Kurosawa upgrade is cause for celebration, it's going to be truly annoying when we all snatch them up as they trickle out and then the dream boxset is announced.

There's a lot of titles that go in/out of the Currently Unavailable status. I used to get my hopes up that it meant an upgrade was imminent, but now I just accept that it just means they're out of stock and have to press more or whatever. Still, there is that little part of me that still remains optimistic

I wonder when we'll get May's announcements? With Friday being the 14th, and Monday being President's day, it's possible it won't be until the 18th. There have been rare occasions where they've announced on the 14th, so I suppose tomorrow is a possibility.

I'm truly surprised there hasn't been a Kurosawa film from Criterion for nearly FOUR years. Criterion introduced me to Kurosawa and Kurosawa introduced me to Criterion. It seemed like a given to get a Kurosawa saw film from them every six months to a year. It just feels odd to have nothing from them for so long and either a boxset is coming, or something else is up.

I was wondering the same thing.

I'm thinking most likely Tuesday, or even Wednesday.

Oh well... Pasolini's "Teorema" is out Tuesday, and I am plenty happy about that.

Probably tomorrow, especially given that the 15th is a Saturday. Besides, Valentine's Day is not a public holiday.

Usually it's the 15th, or later if that falls on a weekend. Announcements on the 14th are very rare. I think the last time was December 14th, 2018 (also a Friday). But maybe Criterion will show us some love early this month

Isn't the "rule" that, if the 15th falls on either day of a regular weekend, then the announcements will be on Friday (the 14th) if the 15th is a Saturday (i.e. one day before the 15th) or on Monday (the 16th) if the 15th is a Sunday (again, one day removed, only one day after in this case)? Provided of course that a public holiday doesn't happen to coincide with the day in question, I've gotten the impression over the years that announcements will always be one day removed from the 15th, whether that's the 14th (as in the case you mentioned) or the 16th.

I don't know if their paramters change depending on whether the 15th is on a Saturday or Sunday, but I haven't looked that closely at that. I just know usually if it falls on a weekend, it's usually the following Monday, or sometimes Tuesday.

I’m glad I got the Parasite blu-ray because of the likely superior encode and the digital copy I gave to a friend. But I’ll definitely pick up the Criterion if it offers a substantial upgrade in extras.

I would be mad that Parasite is coming to the collection only because I just bought the Blu-ray, but no release date has been announced so it could be this year or next year or the year after that. Who knows?

Amazing news - just made my decision to buy or wait on Parasite a ton easier. As for Memories of Murder, I'll happily upgrade to a Criterion edition. I just hope the wait for these isn't too long.
