I wonder if some other retailer will pick up the sale. It would be a smart business move as there are a good number of collectors who were squirreling away money for this sale.

Any chance Criterion would release the French film Irréversible? I know it's a controversial film but Criterion also has Antichrist and Salò Or the 120 Days of Sodom in their collection.

Thanks for posting the first confirmation. I hope they do resume in November.

One thing's for certain, Criterion is in for a very busy time of it come the Flash Sale in October - what with all of us jonesing for 50%.

Yeah I'm not at all surprised. Usually we have positive confirmation by now so I was bracing myself.

Ah well

Totally---they should do one themselves. Make some bank.

What would be really dastardly would be if BN did a sale after all but it were online only.

I have a feeling they can, but I don't think they have it. It's part of StudioCanal and it may be part of the StudioCanal deal that Criterion did alongside Army of Shadows and most likely Le Cercle Rouge. Criterion basically has no shame when it comes to messed up films so I'm sure they are willing to release this if they can. I don't know if they have the rights but StudioCanal did a re-release trailer for it a year ago so I'm predicting that since Kino probably wouldn't want to pull something like that, Criterion would probably be the best candidate to release a film like that. It's artistic yet disturbing on a whole new level, maybe comparable to Salo but I haven't seen either.

In Conclusion, Criterion can release cause they basically have the guts to do so but I don't know if they really have it but don't keep your hopes down, they might've gotten it from their deal with StudioCanal.

Well, it looks like my B&N membership is not going to pay for itself this year. As for sales, Target’s B2G1 deal ends tomorrow. They don’t have a lot of titles and it doesn’t cover pre-orders, but it’s the best deal going until October.

"No... No... NO.... NOOOO... NOOOOO." (two metal arms clank together, shot cuts to black screen)

This is kind of sad. But at the same time, this may prevent me from buying any Criterion Blu-rays which is good 'cause I just got into Kino so I have a good amount of titles to buy from them and also need to go pickup Daughters of Darkness on 4K from BU at a cheap price or maybe during a sale. This year is difficult both because of the tragedy and the fact that Criterion and other companies decided to pull so many good films this year. I just hope they don't kill my wallets next year as they did this year.
Films Planning to Buy:
Wong-Kar Wai Boxset
Federico Fellini Boxset
Alfred Hitchcock UHD Boxset (Rumored but most likely true)
Kino Lorber Titles (Last Year at Marienbad, Le Doulos, Leon Morin Priest, Port of Shadows, Sergio Leone Westerns, Spike Lee Joints)
Daughters of Darkness 4K UHD Limited Edition Set (I hate when companies pull Limited Editions 'cause they give me little to no time to buy and it's impossible to tell when they go OOS.)
Bruce Lee Boxset (Not great films IMO but they were my childhood and without Bruce Lee, I wouldn't be watching movies. A very personal filmography for me)
Other Criterion Titles (Whatever they're announcing this year. Le Cercle Rouge, Tokyo Olympiad maybe, etc.)

This is probably the worst year for me when it comes to shopping. I didn't buy much last 2 years or so but it's almost as if all these companies were waiting to release the big shots in the new decade.

Tokyo Olympiad is out.

Where was it announced that Daughters of Darkness 4K will be limited?

Didn't know it was already out. Might buy it soon then.

The cover for Daughters of Darkness 4K says "Limited Edition 4K UHD + Blu-ray + CD" or something like that. This makes me a little nervous that the CD probably won't be in the next printing of the film. And maybe certain supplements won't be there in the next pressing. I really love the bundle they did for this release.

Amazon is currently running a 3 for 2 offer that includes quite a few Criterion titles - mostly priced around $27. No idea how long it runs, and as always with these offers it's a bit of a challenge trying to sort what is included (when you run a keyword search on "Criterion" it brings up other unrelated releases).

The best way to find the Criterion discs included in the sale is to do a search on the actual 3 for one sale page in the search box there. I put in Criterion Collection blu-ray and it brings them right up with nothing else.

That shows me, I was so turned off the cover in small form I never read the top part. Limited or not, that’s a day 1 purchase for me either way.

Amazon has a section devoted entrirely to Criterion now. It's a bit cryptic to find. I got Rebecca for $21.99 (cheaper than the DVD) and all of the rest that I bought over the past few weeks, including today, have been $27.99. I like this because it's cheaper than the Criterion site since I have Prime. Price of release is quite a bit cheaper and shipping is free. Looks like most are $27.99 but there are a few really cheap, like Rebecca which I really wanted.

The Criterion Collection @ Amazon

EDIT: Instead of the above link, you can also go through the menu system.

Top left corner there will be a Shop by Category button with little bars.
Click that, then Music, Movies & Games then Movies & TV.
This will bring up the Movies & TV page.
Under Featured Stores, it will be listed under Criterion Collection.

EDIT: Don't know where I got $21.99 for Rebecca. It was $26.80. Maybe I was thinking $21.99 that I saw for All About Eve who knows.

Guess I'm going to go ahead and pre-order War of the Worlds and Bruce Lee then. Maybe I'll have some funds to spare in November for the past titles I was wanting but that's a tricky time of year for me. I don't recall ever participating in the November sale.

Yep. Did that and it brings up unrelated films, and even books. Happened during the last promo, too.

Unless I'm in the wrong place?
