so far, 8.1 only used for special applications

Deluxe electric forest management, now that's a good investment you are making with the money you make here in this thread from the amount of views it generates.

Or you could save electricity, gas, oil and money by going manual...hard labor...slavery.

DCI Releases DRAFT High Dynamic Range and DRAFT Direct View Display D-Cinema Addendum
Approved for Distribution for Comments 16 November 2018
Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC, Member Representatives Committee

The proper presentation of a High Dynamic Range Digital Cinema Distribution Master (HDR-DCDM) requires the definition of an HDR Reference Display and controlled environment. This DRAFT specification defines the HDR Reference Display and specifies the tolerances around the critical image parameters for Review Rooms and Exhibition Theaters so that consistent and repeatable color quality can be achieved.

D-Cinema Direct View Displays provide the potential for an improved high-quality image through significantly increased peak luminance and dynamic range, but may also be used to present legacy content. This DRAFT specification defines performance requirements for such displays that are unique to D-Cinema Direct View Displays. These requirements will ensure interoperability and consistent quality of image content on the new generation of d cinema displays.

These documents are not DCI Specifications. These Draft Version 0.9 documents are distributed for review and comment prior to publication of a final requirements document by DCI. Recipients of these documents are invited to submit their comments to DCI.

I looked @ that Philips Momentum 4K HDR Quantum Dot HDR1000 certified monitor (with Ambiglow) earlier; very nice, and a generous present to your nephew. I like the stand's design, it oozes an ultra modern look.

Philips make OLED TVs as well.

Yeah, perhaps I revealed a little too much as to what served as some of the atmosphere of the set design….oh well, no matter, the movie doesn’t come out for nearly 2 years and I think most readers will have forgotten about this conceptualization by then.

That looks like an Air & Space Museum ceiling in replica, with a bar in back. That's pretty nice! I bet the prop guys had fun gluing up all those kits.

Although, for transparency, I’ve been on record for a long time (years now) stating that I personally favor Dolby Vision (e.g. ST 2094 Application #1 which designated the Dolby proposal back in early 2016….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...4#post12007747), be that as it may, in an act of sharing with HDR10+ aficionados given Thanksgiving Day fast approaching, I’ll inform that mastering in HDR10+ is now available at -
https://www.roundabout.com/

Which is a feather in the cap for those favoring that approach.

Don't worry about that Penton, this is the Top Gun: Maverick HDR thread.
The more traffic and flybys the better.

Well, not only with detailed descriptions of the Coronado and San Pedro locations, I’ll admit it has been rather fun to chronicle the filming (e.g. - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post15446571 ) before social media and local news organizations (e.g. - https://www.sfgate.com/movies/articl...e-13239763.php ) are aware as to what’s up with the production.

Not to mention I received a thank you from a local couple for making them aware of a new place to hike and visit along the ocean which they hadn’t tried out yet (last photo - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...l#post15709564 ) to walk off those calories they expect to consume with their Thanksgiving feast with all the fixings today.

I wish everyone a Happy and safe Thanksgiving Day. And to those dealing with tough situations and/or personal tragedies in life, remember, it could always be worse, so there are some things to be thankful for.

I have UHD color on my 4k TV. I only turn it on for 4k content. Any point to turn it on for 1080p and below content
