I just hope that for any side-by-side comparisons they’re showing decent 4K source material like ‘Tears’ - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...rs#post7186967 <- but of course encoded with h.264 or HEVC so the TVs on hand can support it.

In that vein, premiering tonight on Cinemax at 10 P.M. is Steven Soderbergh’s The Knick.
http://www.cinemax.com/the-knick/vid...=3625658601001

Shot with a RED camera and mastered in 4K (contrary to what is currently listed on imdb) and with the main character in the TV series (Dr. John Thackery), *Hollywood* inspired by the real life of Dr. William Halstead, who among other things, when he was the ripe old age of 29 years old, saved his sister’s life by giving her a direct blood transfusion of his own blood (reportedly being the first known transfusion in the U.S.) and ”performed one of the first gallbladder operations in the United States (a cholecystotomy performed on his mother on the kitchen table at 2 a.m.)”.

Short read - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Stewart_Halsted
Long read - http://halstedthedocumentary.org/halsted.php
Peer reviewed read - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1448951/

“He was one of the first surgeons to employ courtesy in surgery, to show any consideration for the insides of a man he was operating on. The old method was to slit a man from the chin down, take out his bowels, and spread them on a towel while you sorted them. Halsted held that if you touched an intestine with your finger you injured it and the patient suffered the effects of the injury. That was a new doctrine when he began.

Halsted introduced rubber gloves. He invented the technique of shutting off the area of operation, blocking it with shots of cocaine in the surrounding nerves so there would be less general shock. He was gentle and a little inhuman. He had to be because he was so sensitive.”

Have no idea what that is suppose to mean. But if you ment am i still discussing and highly enjoying a 6 year old display with phenomenal PQ that can stand with, and in some aspects, beat, past, current, and even future displays in overall PQ? If so then.........yeah........i guess.

Sorry for loving the kuro and plasma tech. Why should i accept inferior technology. Leave that to the sheep masses.

But, unfortunately in the case of phones, we were all wrong….

You may be a more reliable technological fortune teller than me, kind of like you being Agent 86 (Maxwell Smart) and me being the likes of Larabee

Get Smart - Larabee Quick! Follow That Car - YouTube

but, I humbly think that predicting technological advancements over the long course of time can be a tricky thing as exemplified with the phone example. Film has had a century to mature, digital is still in its infancy. My bet is someday, someone will build a near perfect LUT and the final grading will dial it in from there. You know what I am sure of though?

I’m 100% sure that BYU will never come close to surpassing Syracuse U. as a party school…. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...n_5647885.html. Feel free to bookmark my prediction.
Digital is digital. I'll believe it when it happens.

Finally. I'm going to see this (probable) POS just to check out the 4K. I'll make sure to sit close this time.

Hmm. I wonder if any theaters around here will get a 4K DCP? Time for some awkward phone calls....

Sing, they all will. Your phone calls need only be pertaining to whether or not your theater is using a 4K projector in the auditorium to show the flick.

Well…also, as the case may be, as you’ve outlined on the last page, in regards to a certain brand, if they care to remove the dual 3D lens from those 4K projectors for 2D showings.

Really? That's good news. When I was trying to see Lawrence in 4K only a handful of the theaters that were showing the movie had 4K DCPs, even though all of them had 4K projectors. Maybe that was a different situation as it was a limited showing, but it was odd that a showing that was touting its 4K status was also available in 2K.

It’s nice to see some people still have the ethics to compensate others for their creative/intellectual property rather than moral losers who steal which precipitates lawsuits, investigations and such….

Now that you've so thoroughly answered my question I can go to the theater without any reservation as I know I will get my 4K fix.

The news about Robin Williams was shocking and just sad. I remember him from Mrs. Doubtfire, of course, but I was first introduced to him in Awakenings, which I consider to be his best serious work. It is a touching film that brings me to tears every time I watch it. It is a rare person who can bring you both comedy and serious drama so effectively.

This tragedy shows that we are all human, regardless of how famous or wealthy we may be. We can all suffer from depression and addiction, and Mr. Williams was no different. I feel horrible for his family.

Not just a great performer but, he truly cared about others in need and gave so much with numerous acts of kindness both informally and formally -

Like many others, the guy was part of my childhood. Loved him and I will miss him. Very few actors/comedians could spread such warmth in so little time.
The word legend is used far too commonly these days but Robin would qualify for such a title.

RIP Mr Williams

Sure, I pay for all my content that's not in the public domain. I'm especially keen to reward the content providers for high quality presentations (this 4K movie, Blu-rays, hi-res audio on disc and download).

OTOH I punish them by rejecting feature film via DVD / crap Netflix, music by mp3 or CD etc etc. That's just the kinda consumer I am. They gimme the quality, I give 'em the money. I hope the content makers can get used to me.
