I don't know what Avatar 2 will bring to the discussion, but if Disney (the parent of the Avatar franchise now) has a say it will mean a 2k DI for at least the 3D version. 8k will not change the studios' tendency to cheapen out. We won't be seeing true 8k content for some time to come given the industry's track record in terms of cinema DCP's. Can you imagine rendering two eye views of 4k movies (let alone 8k), especially with all the CGI in most modern popcorn films?? They don't even do true 4k 3D now! |
