Yes, I believe this issue {DTS/HD Master/High Resolution} is becoming a joke, for the simple reason of "no response" from the powers that be, especially after so many inquiries from so many people, for such a long time. I hope someone is actually watching these forums who can chime in and respond in some way, that is not too much to ask, is it?

You realize Paidgeek works for Sony Pictures... you know as stated in the tread title..... not SCEA (who makes the PS3 and BD Players). He has a family and spends his personal time posting on this site. Why don't you guys cut him some slack. We don't need to be running off insiders. If you have a Sony Pictures question, I'm sure he'd be happy to answer... when he has the time... if it doesn't involve "when is x coming to blu-ray"

NOW GET BACK TO WATCHING BLU-RAY's I know I will! CE3K here I come!!

My apologies to Paidgeek, this wasn't directed at him, but only to get Sony's attention, again accept my apology paidgeek.

Also, as for "x coming to blu-ray", X does have significance to many of us.

Well DTS HD is catchy to decode. With TrueHD it's 2 file embeded in each other, simple. DTS HD use the Base Core and add the missing information from another 'File' inside it so it's really CPU intensive and need a better decoder. Right now the simpler answer is to get the info out to a AVR (what the Pana and Samsung are doing). But current player won't be able to do that sort of thing. It's gonna be a CPU hog, even for the PS3...

Word of advice... If someone tells you about an "undocumented feature" of a product, don't go hammering the CS number for confirmation. You can verify what this and other players are doing when the appropriate test content finds its way into the market.

As you can see from other recent posts, my comments on another company or another divisions product can cause more problems than they solve. You will not catch me giving details about hardware going forward.

When playing the TrueHD track from 5th Element Remastered:

If I set HDMI Audio to Auto it throws out a stock DD5.1 track to the AVR.

If I set HDMI Audio to PCM it throws out an LPCM 5.1 track to the AVR.

To my ears I cant tell any difference, however when playing the native LPCM 5.1 track that is on the disc, it sounds much more detailed than the "TrueHD" track. Im pretty certain that my s300 is only decoding the core DD5.1 track contained in the TrueHD track.
Using HDMI with LPCM out is the optimum configuration.

So to me it seems like both PCM and LPCM are sent out bitstream through HDMI, but TrueHD and DD+ can not be sent bitstream. Therefor LPCM can not carry either through HDMI.

Is this wrong?

Sorry Paid, This is probibly the wrong thread for this unless you can provide conclusive proof about this very muddy issue. Sony seems to contradict themselves every time I contact them.
Sorry, but I am not here to be cross examined... You can check what the players do or not for yourself. It's not that hard...

Knowing how twisted things can get in the press, I think it is optimistic to think this is true... Let's see what is said tomorrow.

Thanks for taking the time to read my question.
Since our audio mixes are the same ones delivered to the cinema, I suspect we will look hard at supporting 7.1 on Blu-ray when the films are mixed that way.

Of course it is possible to do a special 7.1 mix for Blu-ray (maybe this is what the studios you mentioned are doing?), but if we do so, I think we also have an obligation to include the original theatrical 5.1 don't you? So then we have used 2x the audio bandwidth to include a specially prepared 7.1 right?

Thanks
Sorry, but this is not the sort of information we share...

Do you see Cinema moving towards 7.1? Is 6.1 used much in the theater?

I sure hope 7.1 becomes the standard, as has been getting set by Lionsgate (love the tracks on War and 3:10 to Yuma). Dolby Pro-Logic IIx works great for those that don't.

The A-man seemed to poo-poo the idea of 7.1 becoming the norm as a CE pushed agenda IIRC.

The full installation of SDDS is 7.1 but it is five channels for fronts and two for surrounds.

And paidgeek works for SPHE, not Sony Consumer Electronics nor Sony Computer Entertainment.

paidgeek, I just saw Vantage Point. Very entertaining film and worth the replay value. The last shot was not as convincing as the other shots (you'd know what I'm talking about). Would SPE/SPHE tweak it a bit before the movie gets released on BD? I do hope a wealth of extras and maybe a seamless branching (for the in-depth cut) could be included for this movie. Thanks for answering all of my previous questions!

I agree completely but unfortunately there seems to be a movement away from using LPCM tracks to TrueHD and DTS-HD/MA.

paidgeek,
The deaf folks here are asking if Closed-Caption can be enabled when BD players/PS3 are connected to the HDTV via HDMI. Can it? If not, can it be a firmware-added feature?
