Paid - under the Sony umbrella, could you please have a word with the most powerful and pertinent person you can think of about getting some MUSIC releases concurrently released on Blu-ray Disc in high resolution, preferrably with a surround mix, but at least with a high resolution stereo mix.
For example, I believe Dave Matthews Band are currently in the studio working on their next record and they are in the SonyBMG umbrella. Wouldn't a high profile artist like this be perfect for a high resolution Blu-ray Disc release? If Trent Reznor and Rob Halford can forge ahead with a high rez release of their work, SANS video footage, and the music industry as a whole lacking in revenue, surely there is no better time than right about now to present the world with a better way to listen to their albums, that is far less complicated than the first days of SACD/DVD-Audio. (One cable) *** one million lire in the coffer *** Thank you Godfather. |

Hi paid,
I know this might not be your area of expertise, but I was wondering why the PS3 doesn't upconvert 480p and 1080i video on BDs to 1080p and instead outputs it in its native resolution. Everything else, from DVDs to video clips saved on the XMB, is upconverted, so this seems more like an oversight than anything else. Is there any technical reason why the PS3 can't do this upconversion? Thanks, Bryan |

Fantastic idea!!! IMO coverarts should always present the best fit for the original theatrical art, with no banners, quotes or logos getting in the way of the artwork. Paid, could you pass that request along? I believe SPHE marketing departement should seriouly consider such idea of double sided covers. One side with the usual flying heads, quotes, banners and all, and other side with a clean, full original posterart presented. As a matter of fact. I have worked on several custom designs for myself featuring the original poster. If it's all right, I present bellow some previews of what I have done in this regard so folks here can have a visual idea of what we're talking about. I don't want to pile on, but there have been a few pretty atrocious Blu-ray covers (by ALL studios). I think at this stage of the game, Blu-ray is still a premium product (over DVD, obviously), though you wouldn't know it looking at the covers for Cruel Intentions or Arlington Road (I'm only picking on Sony titles because they are in your area of influence). I speculated a while ago that the Seven Years in Tibet cover might be partly responsible for disappointing sales numbers (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=31). Other, let's say uninspired, covers would be Donnie Brasco or The Fifth Element. Rocky Balboa & Hellboy on the other hand look very good. I think us enthusiast just look for something classy and faithful to the original poster art (or at least the style of it), especially when we're paying premium over or upgrade from the DVD. I know it's cheap to armchair quarterback design & marketing decisions (and no one here's an expert), but thanks for listening anyway. I think reversible covers (and added booklets, for example) would be a nice "premium" touch for BDs, but I'm not sure anyone would be willing to pay extra for it, so it's probably not a realistic request. Somebody mentioned the possibility of having the original cover art on the flip side of the cover art as well... and I LOVE that idea!! ~Alan |

Wow, nice covers. Yes, I definitely support the idea of original poster as covers without any swoosh, blu-ray, or any other unnecessary "add-ons".

I just want to make sure I am understanding this correctly. Using The Lord of the Rings as an example. The movie comes out showing on BD and has a cover art showing all the heads of the actors like the theatrical releases. Then when I get the movie home, I take the cover art out of the BD case and reverse it to something classy printed on the back (inside facing) side like the cover art for the extended edition movies?
If that is right, I ABSOLUTLY want that for future BD releases. ![]() |

Umm... Correction, covers for jessica alba movies should always have just jessica alba in a come hither pose wearing as little as possible.

Well, since some images were posted of the new films, may I add these to those, all Sony/Columbia films:
This is how covers from classics should look, all from the original posters. This is what Warner is doing and I hope Sony would follow suit as that's what the classic fans desire. I had a great one for Funny Girl, but it isn't uploading right. Last edited by WickyWoo; 03-21-2008 at 11:14 PM. |

Is it true that Rescue Me's 4th season won't come to Blu-ray day-and-date with the DVD release on June 3rd? If so, that's extremely disappointing - TV on BD isn't going to start selling better if people can't count on later seasons being released on BD as well.
