Paid,
Is there any chance that Sony will release any opera performances on BD in the next year or so?
Thanks.

Please do not fill Paid's thread or anyone else's with graphics unless specifically requested, and then keep the sizes reasonable. I'm sure he'd bring it to us when and if it became a reality and they needed input

Plus, he’s out-of-town on vacation with his family all next week and I don’t even know if he’s carrying a laptop.

I think the main idea was that with the talk of cover art we were hoping he could pass along the type of cover art we would prefer, so honestly I saw nothing wrong with giving him some examples to pass along to the artists who design the covers at Sony. I do think some of them were way too huge... I did keep the size of mine (the classic titles) very reasonable (7 titles took less than 1/4 of a page), I am really sorry to see you did not feel this issue, tagged with some examples of what we are talking about, relevant. I most certainly feel it was. Personally, I think it is a waste to have an insider and not allow the readers to make suggestions for the studio and give examples if available.

Paid is a geek after all

He knows the kind of things we want, and if he doesn't, he's never been bashful about asking

I hope not for his sanity Paid needs to enjoy his family and stop thinking about work

Insiders correct me if I'm wrong.
My PS3 connects wirelessly, using the same access point as the laptops in the house. That'll be fun to deal with, oh yes.

Hopefully Sony will give me a 'Turn BD-Live on/off' toggle... maybe around the same time they fix the PS3's PCM output to only output 2.0 instead of 7.1 when I'm streaming a stereo source from my Mac, so that I can enable Pro-Logic surround on my amp.

Edit: I love the idea of a reversible cover with the original theatrical poster on the reverse. Please bring this up!

sorry to ask this again. i don't recall where this left off, but know another person asked...

can you ask sony if they can allow us PS3 owners to specify an order of preference for audio options for blu playback? I'd like to be able to always have playback automatically choose uncompressed PCM, followed by Dolby TrueHD, followed by DTS-MA, followed by something else...

would be a useful option.

BTW -- please give a high-five to any sony PS3 employee you encounter and tell them they have created the ultimate in gaming/movie playback. coupled with an XBR4 and I'm just in blu heaven.

thanks

A lot of photo sites (upload sites -- imageshack, freeimagehosting, supload, etc.) have thumbnail options which are a lot more forum friendly, imo. That way, you get an idea of what the pic is and can decide if you want to click it to get the full-size image or not, instead of having no choice and having to wait while a lot of photos load.

Paid,

in Japan, Sony has just released "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", a title that has so far been unavailable on Blu-ray.

Can you find out if this title is region coded? I would love to import this disc but cannot play RC A discs as I'm in Europe.

Thanks!

The Japan edition of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" on Blu-ray will mostly be Region Free.
It's released by GAGA COMMUNICATIONS and not by SPE. So far GAGA hasn't enforced Regional Coding on Blu-ray catalog titles.

More information can be found here http://choppytan777.blog113.fc2.com/

99% of the GAGA titles on Blu-ray doesn't feature English Subtitles but the blog says it has English Subs though it's not specified on back of the cover art.

Double check on the Aspect Ratio before purchasing this title as Gaga recently messed up by setting wrong aspect ratio on U-571 and Sahara.

Thanks a lot, Igans316. I thought it was a Sony release because of a news item here on Blu-ray.com (https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=796)

No subs would be ok, with subs it would be even better, of course. The scan on the blog page you linked to shows a Dolby TrueHD track - that track is english, right?

If it wasn't for the possible Aspect Ratio mess-up you mentioned, I would immediately order this disc. It would be very kind of you to send me a PM if you get further information that the Eternal Sunshine disc is ok/not ok!

P.S. Was the general picture quality of other Gaga Blu-ray releases fine?

Ive seen Phantom Of The Opera from Gaga (Japanese release). Its a MAXED OUT AVC Encode and lossless audio (TrueHD). Proper a/r as well. Its AWESOME. The bitrate pretty much doesnt drop from 33Mbps ever and peaks at 40 often.

Sounds great. That japanese blog post also mentions "AVC" and "BD 50", and Eternal Sunshine is only 108 minutes long... time to hit that order button.

I agree with mntwister and I was quite upset with the sudden deletions of the posts. Those posts took me a great deal of time and were very informative and I made some legit inquiries to Paid

The posts had a very friendly tone so nothing to worry about in regards to manners. If the images were too big, then a simple request would be enough for me to downsize them.

Paid, I just want to pass on my thanks for the new tape on the blu case tops that has a hole cut out in it to avoid stripping off the "blu-ray" logo/chrome that I found on my Dogma and Gattaca discs

Much appriciated

I also noticed this on Gattaca. This strip has been used on Warner/Fox Elite cases. I'm glad they are finally showing up on the Sony style case. Little improvements like that make a big difference for me.

They're also perforated now. They tear apart so much easier, and cleaner than before.

I know this might not be your area of expertise, but I was wondering why the PS3 doesn't upconvert 480p and 1080i video on BDs to 1080p and instead outputs it in its native resolution. Everything else, from DVDs to video clips saved on the XMB, is upconverted, so this seems more like an oversight than anything else. Is there any technical reason why the PS3 can't do this upconversion?
Sadly, this is why I now have to move on from my PS3!

My new display needs a constant 1080p60 lock and can't handle the PS3's constant changing of HDMI resolutions and dropping to 1080i or SD with various BD menus and bonus features.

I'm going out to buy a Panny BD30 this afternoon. Sheesh!

Of course, I'll now be bitstreaming my DTS-HD MA to my Marantz for decoding so I'm not too upset...

I'm getting reports of EE and DNR on this new transfer. Is there EE and/or DNR? If so, why?
