The Goldfinch (2019) confirmed by Oscar winner ( ) Roger Deakins. VFX resolution should be done at camera resolution.

Per Christopher McQuarrie’s Twitter: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: Fallout received a 4K DCP for the Dolby Cinema format.

Is the movie getting a 4K finish proper? A special sauce DCP doesn't count, e.g. IMAX's DCPs are ALL 4K regardless of the source being finished in 4K or not.

Please ask him on the runtime. There are rumours of 150 minutes.

Here in the Netherlands we are having a Dolby Cinema 3D release. Which is 2K.

If you’re referring to 4K DCPs all across the board, that I do not know.

The workflow was a 4K-DI, though.

I actually asked him the run time about a month or so ago, but said they were still editing the final cut.

No, it's not.

As soon as you run it through a camera it loses quite a bit of resolution. Even the best emulsions, using the best anamorphic lenses eke out roughly 4K at best - AT BEST. Super35 is lower despite the additional soundtrack area.

Despite Nolan-type propaganda pictures.

Super 35 4-perf with the best glass will always beat anamorphic with the best glass in terms of sheer spatial resolution owing to the inherent distortion of the latter (ARRI used flat 4/35 for their own 35mm resolution tests). Sure, in real world terms you're rarely going to use the full 1.33 4-perf frame when using S35 because no-one needs 1.33 any more, although the crafty usage of 4/35 to fill in during the action scenes in Catching Fire's IMAX sequence proved that it's got plenty in the tank.

But yeah, is either anywhere close to 6K once it actually ends up on the emulsion? Nope, because the stock and the lighting and the glass and the exposure and the development all affect the final resolution, plus any fast camera movement which kills temporal resolution @ 24fps. And given Nolan's undying love for film, even he would surely acknowledge that the printing steps needed to actually render that negative out to a suitable projection element also impact the resolution quite heavily, knocking off 20-25% with every step. Heck, even if we're talking about a 35mm showprint minted off the negative, and even if it was 6K at source, that print would be 4.5K.

Seriously? It's all "propaganda"?!!
So when I see a 70mm film and it looks amazing, and then a crappy DCP- my eyes are lying to me? (I have yet to see a DCP that doesn't look terrible. And I have seen them at the Egyptian, Cineramadome, and at Eastman Kodak)
I don't believe that my eyes are being fed propaganda when I see 35mm and 70mm film prints.

That right there renders the entire post moot (and it's propaganda).

Keep telling yourself that. I love film, and I hate to see it go, but while the past is lovely, the future ain't too dark either. Perhaps I'm spoiled, being able to see Laser 4K, but if that's the future, we're in for a treat. Hell, even proper 2K projection is able to hold it's own against 35mm, and superior to it when dealing with DI's, which the VAST majority of movies today are.
