I think they named it worst almost solely on the whole 48 fps debacle.

Nope. It's absolutely #1 of 2012 in my book, but I haven't seen Les Mis or Django yet.

I think that regardless of how you feel about the HFR 3D, this is pretty funny. The best part starts at 57 seconds.

Let me put it this way. I enjoyed this theater experience a lot more then the other three LotRs films.

Also take a look at the poll at the top of the page. This has to be the biggest disconnect in a movie between critics and the movie going public that I have ever seen.

Tell me one thing though...

[Show spoiler]In the beginning when Frodo says he's going to leave, is that were LotR begins with Frodo reading the book and hears Gandalf?

he heads out to the forest or whatever and it ends up being the 1st shot of Frodo in Fellowship of the Ring.

Not bad. Disappointing would be a better way to describe it.

The reason being is the 3D projectors that they are using have the newer digital tech so it is far easier to update them to show off the HFR. They will eventually get around to the regular 2D projectors, but it will be quite a while before they do as they STILL have a whole lot of 3D ones yet to upgrade.

Also the HRF is supposed to help with the 3D eye strain as well which is another reason they chose them first.

Hmmm. I see they used the Epic Red Camera to do the 3D. Prometheus used the same camera and I thought the 3D was awesome. To bad. However, I didn't like The Hobbit enough to spend more money to see it in 3D.

Yea, which was pretty cool.

However, then why does Bilbo keep yelling at Frodo to answer the knocking door in the Fellowship EE?

I liked the 3D. Most of Rivendell and the scenes involving the eagles looked amazing.

I agree with that, and would add to that the scenes of the Shire. Rivendell and the Shire could have used even more coverage, especially interiors of Rivendell and exterior shots of the Shire, as these are highly desirable locations that are worth an extended look, with superb detail provided by the art department. Despite what one may think of the plot and character changes that Jackson made to the original story, this is a good-looking film.

I think there will be more shots of each in the extended edition. There are shots of Bilbo in the interiors of Rivendell in the trailer that were not in the movie. Unfortunately, this will not be on the big screen in HFR. But if you have a decent home set-up with 3D, you'll get it.

I agree that those scenes looked amazing. I especially loved the scenes of the council. The two encircling pillar structures with the brook were outstanding in 3D, especially when the camera moved around. While we only had a brief moment of it, I thought that abandoned tower that Radagast went to looked great. Is that
[Show spoiler]where Gandalf is in some of the shots of the early trailer?
I don't want anything too spoiled.

Bob, one thing that I am really hoping for in the EE regarding the Shire, is more scenes of Hobbiton. There was some cut scenes of Bilbo shopping in the market for his fish dinner.

And that was one of the big disappointments for me with the Fellowship and RotK that when they showed Hobbiton...it was ONLY three buildings! I wish that they had built some more false fronts for it to give it that larger town feeling that it really deserves.

I enjoy scenes of the more pleasant areas of Middle-earth, and the beginning Shire sequence of Fellowship are the scenes I enjoy visiting most from that trilogy. When I saw the elaborate set constructions being made for the Hobbit trilogy, and the Shire in particular, I had high expectations that we would be treated to even greater coverage. I would much rather have seen more "doings" around the Green Dragon (the scene from the book, for instance), instead of an extended goblin chase scene. I hope you and Vegeta88 are correct about adding more of these scenes in the EE.

4/5

Glad to have Middle Earth back again. I had no idea they had the actor from LOTR returning as Bilbo for the beginning. That was a nice treat. I was fearing a slow-paced movie, but overall it went by pretty fast. Enjoyed almost everything, except for the main Orc villain (very forgettable character) & some of the effects shots were terrible, maybe a little toooo much cgi this time around? The dialogue seemed much more refined and less cheesy compared to the previous 3 films.

Edit: Ah yes and the Rock Giants fight scene. Didn't fit at all. If they just had the giants throwing boulders at each other and not brawling with their fists maybe that would have been better? Was that in the book? It reeked of Guillermo del Toro. I am sooooo glad he did not direct. He would have ruined the 'feel' that Jackson created for this world.
