Is there any company that makes 4K projectors with passive 3D technology? I tried to look for LG- since they are the only brand besides Visio that uses passive 3D but found no results.

So is bit-rate any concern at all with current 4K models with the upcoming UHD BD?

Mine is 12-bit.

^^^

Also I read your tv doesn't have this, can't do that, where's the beer? Um. When BD launched, there were no smart tvs. (hint - firmware) Let's get this outta the way. HDCP 2.2 is hacked.

--

Oh to answer the OP's question.. You are probably seeing a pixelated effect with LCD. Happens while watching 4K as well as any 1080 LCD. Just cuz of a much lower refresh rate in comparison to Plasma.

Also, ghosting is noticed on "any" 3D Display wether it be Passive/Active.

DLP 3D doesn't ghost.

But, like anything, it can be abused. DNR, used very, very, very (sense a trend? ) sparingly, can help an image. As we know, movies look like garbage if overused. I suppose HDR could be abused, too, if it was utilized to "jack up" the contrast in an older movie to the point where it doesn't look at all what it's supposed to.

Keep in mind that SDR displays also mess up contrast. They lessen it severely compared to the source. We are just used to it.

When I got my VT30 plasma TV, at first I didn't like it compared to my CRT 1080i projection TV. It looked a bit flatter and the blacks weren't as deep. Then, eventually, I realized I was just used to the way my CRT HDTV looked, and while it beats the pants off of any LCD source I've ever seen, the plasma image was far superior once I gave it a chance.

Hey, I used to think vinyl was for fools. Now, it's pretty much all I listen to.

Keep an open mind! You might be pleasantly surprised. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
I totally agree. In general, digital is just a tool, just like the photo chemical process was a tool for cleaning film years ago. They can both be misused.

None of the current LCD/LED UHD TVs can support the full Rec. 2020 color space. Those that come the closest are using quantum dot technology and we will certainly be seeing more of those coming to market over the next couple of years. For right now finding a LCD/LED UHD TV that can actually support DCI P3 color space, as used in commercial cinemas, is probably the best you can do.

Since my Sony 55W900A already uses Quantum Dot Technology its going to be intertesting to see if it can take advantage of the Rec. 2020 color space.

I hope this is true for my 65UB9500- which is hdmi 2.0

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9342/4k-htpc-hisense-tv

"HDR Capability
Ultra HD Blu-rays are expected to come with high-dynamic range content. HDMI 2.0a was recently ratified with support for HDR metadata flags. Most displays can get firmware upgrades if they are already HDMI 2.0 certified. However, that might not always be the case, and the consumer needs to pay particular attention to this aspect.HDR Capability

I think I'm just gonna wait it out a bit until I take the plunge, hopefully by then I'll be able to pick up a 4k OLED with all the bells and whistles without having to sell a kidney or two

Well I just read Amir's "final thoughts" on UHD 4K from June Widescreen Review mag.

He believes we'll get better display tech outta UHD but as a format, that's pretty much where it ends. He used to work for Microsoft & the push for VC-1 back in the format wars & now is founder of madronadigital.com for custom home electronics. He's been in the buis for over 30 years now.

I wish I could quote directly from the digital mag cuz he brings up very good points & some harshness.. "In the process of writing this article, I could not even find an official announcement or any mention whatsoever of UHD bluray on BDA's own website."

Why is UHD Blu-ray still not mentioned on BDA's own website? I realize there is zero promotion for it anywhere, but come on, it should be at least mentioned on the home site by now, since launch is allegedly only 4-5 months away.

The TV only has options for ITU601 and ITU709 for the colour space, so unless Sony issue an update to allow the set to recognise other colour spaces it'll have no way of identifying P3 or 2020 primaries, and won't be able to map them to its own native gamut. Naturally the 2015 Sony sets have options for sRGB/709, DCI and BT.2020 in the colour space selection.

Amir has been wrong on a lot of things and was tantamount to a propaganda minister for HD DVD during the format war. He's been anti-Blu-ray from Day 1 and I would not take anything he says seriously. He claimed on AVS not long ago there would be no UHD BD.

For example, back in the day stating he knew that BD50 mass replication was "impossible" and "science fiction"….. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=19440

Any info on LG updating their 2014 UHD line up with a HDR firmware update? I heard it's possible to do but idk if they'll " screw" their customers who's money they already have and not support this- wanting them to instead buy an entire new TV, of which I'm not. I usually go with a 4 year cycle on my tvs. Otherwise if I go with 3 year or less in cycles, I'm spending $150 a month in perpetuity on tvs snd in two years there's not that massive of a leap in tech to justify the purchase. If I win the lotto, I'll buy a new tv every year.- actually I'd buy a 80" UHD TV and skip projector. Just put the sets5' away to give it a "theatre field of vision view."

I'm staying away from UHD till the HDR format wars are over don't want to get burned by a obsolete TV. There is Dolby Vision and SMPTE and don't think one set plays both. Early adopters always get burned ask anyone with HD-DVD.

Yes. I'm going to wait until mid 2016 or possibly 2017 before I take a serious look at upgrading my display and other CE equipment. I want to see UHD Alliance logos first.
