O.K. -
Guys, my PM box is filling up at an alarming rate with complaints.

So, please take the Apple, Mac computer stuff to another forum and start your own thread on the topic as I've think everyone has exhausted the topic pretty well here.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Oh, another thing.

After I made the post above about Lowry Digital, a couple other companies PM'ed me to say that essentially their proprietary algorithms for grain reduction strive for the same thing, i.e. decrease total grain but, maintenance of perceivable detail.

So, there you go.
I'll let everyone else decide who has the best secret formula for such processing and if I'm alerted to the fact that some company has used Digital Vision's software, etc. on a restored upcoming Blu-ray in the future, I'll be certain to give them a plug also, if deserved.

When it matters to that last market they will care.

"It’s not a hard case to make, especially considering the numbers Apple just posted. Profits were $1.14 billion on sales of $7.9 billion. But because of accounting rules that affect the iPhone and Apple TV, that actually understates the strength of Apple’s quarter. Counted another way, Apple actually sold $11.68 billion worth of product in the quarter, worth $2.44 billion in profit. Apple’s cash hoard ballooned to nearly $25 billion, leaving it with more cash than any other debt-free technology company. (That’s more than Microsoft (MSFT), Intel (INTC), or Google (GOOG); Cisco (CSCO) has more than $26 billion in cash, but it also has about $7 billion in debt.)"

Last i heard Microsoft had well more than 50 billion in cash...I love Apple, love there products....But would still invest the kids college fund in Microsoft before Apple..

How does Sony's Blu-code relate to Sony's Blu-print?

Penton,

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=800

I hope this was a one time error, and not a trend. Anything you can do to alert your studio contacts that this is unacceptable would be appreciated.

You know at some point, if this stuff becomes too complex for the average person to understand and "fix", there's just no way Blu-Ray is ever going to grow as you all hope.

Thanks,
Esox

Penton,

How come Sony rolls out the red carpet for HTF and not blu-ray.com?

Quote:
After spending the morning with representatives from Microsoft and Pioneer, Home Theater Forum members found the red carpet rolled out for them at Sony Pictures Studios, where they got the first glimpse at new BD Live special features for Step Brothers, the first look at Sony’s first interactive picture-in-picture Blu-ray Disc, and the first North American viewing of Resident Evil: Degeneration.

“I’ve had a long history with many of you, and I can’t tell you how much you mean to us,” Fritz Friedman, SVP of worldwide publicity for SPHE, told HTF members. A theater marquee and lunch greeted HTF members.

HTF members were treated to a hot-off-the-presses BD Live feature, which takes video clips of Step Brothers stars Will Farrell and John C. Reilly dancing on a boat with two women, flashing money and drinking champagne, and allows BD Live users to mix the clips to a rap song called “Boats ‘N Hoes.” Finished videos can then be uploaded to the BD Live network, and ranked by other BD Live users.

“We just finished authoring it last week,” Garvin said. “I have to give a disclaimer: It is a rap song and it is a bit raunchy.” She added that for this Blu-ray, the special feature is only in standard-definition, with SPHE aiming for high-def footage for future features like this one. One day soon, BD Live users may be able to take whatever clips they wanted from a movie, and mix them to music to make their own videos.

Next HTF members got first look at the new picture-in-picture feature SPHE is using for Resident Evil: Degeneration, the all-CGI horror flick streeting Dec. 30. The feature allows Blu-ray viewers to choose one of three streams to play along with the film: animatics, motion capture or storyboards. Users can switch between all three at any time while the movie is playing, and the picture-in-picture actually stays with the films when users fast-forward at 1.5-times speed. “It’s certainly coming together for us, and I think for the other studios as well,” Garvin said.

Lastly, HTF members got to see the latest “Resident Evil” offering before anyone else in America. While going direct to DVD here, it’s showing in theaters now in Japan.

Before heading off to a SVS sound presentation on Sunset Boulevard, HTF head Ron Epstein summed up the group’s Hollywood experience so far: “It’s been a blast.”
http://www.homemediamagazine.com/blo...-sony-pictures
Yes, that's the same Ron Epstein who last March said that Blu-ray, even after winning the format war, could end up in the "scrap heap of dead formats that have tried valiantly and failed." The same who opened a sticky thread about the XDE players on the HD Hardware subforum.

HTF is out on one of the "studio tour" weeks they've been doing for about 10 years now. It's nothing discriminatory or favoritism.

There's apparently playback issues with the new Bond discs and several standalone players. Do the studios test out these discs on players OTHER THAN, the PS3?

I too am curious about Penton-Man's thoughts on this issue. Since our family has a PS3 we don't have the problem, but what should be a huge celebration for Blu-ray getting such iconic titles released is generating a lot of negative buzz on the net for owners of older players, including surprisingly the Sony 300. It's giving the usual suspects a lot of ammunition to bash Blu-ray when it might just be sloppy authoring by 1 studio.

Somebody please type up a concise post regarding which Bond movies are causing exactly what type of problems with which type of Sony player(s) and I’ll be happy to forward that post to the person that handles such things.......or somebody at the V.P. level.

It is not just Sony players however. I've seen other mentioned, including Samsung for example. I can personally verify experiencing loading issues with my Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1, which I believe shares some software architecture with the Sony BDP-S300 that seems to be the most commonly mention Sony BD player having issues.

AVS Forum members are reporting that none of the Bond movies work with the Pioneer BDP05FD or BDP051 Blu-Ray players either...

and I own a Pioneer too...
