Yes, in agreement regarding the French Release. It's Region Free as well and the Director's Cut looks amazing compared with what we've been subjected to on DVD. The Theatrical cut on the other hand , not to thrilled with it. If I'm in the mood for that, I'll watch the US release.

It would be nice to get a Blu-ray of the US theatrical cut that doesn't look like complete garbage, although if Scream were to release the title, I'm not looking forward to assballs compression on one of the utmost genre classics.

The French Blu-ray indeed looks marvelous for the director's cut which is my preferred version of the film anyway. Still caps make it look kind of weak, but in motion it looks like the 35mm archive print it was scanned from.

The theatrical cut looks worse than the US disc? Wow.

All I want is a great transfer of both director and theatrical cuts. I don't care who releases it.

^^^This. The European cut seems like a "take it or leave it" situation, considering that it seems to be a case of "better than one, not as good as another." Oh, and the TV cut would be a nice bonus as well, a la the German release.

I think he refers to a version of AoD that has only the dir.cut and therefore he needs to watch the US BD incase he want to see the theatrical at all.

I have a version like that though I don't remember it from France or Germany atm lol.

I don't dig the yellow push on the French release, way to yellow for my tastes. Back when I purchased it, I remember seeing screencap comparisons of US Theatrical Cut and the French Theatrical Cut, but I can't remember where I saw them. I really purchased the French Release for The Directors Cut anyway and the International Cut was a bonus.

Edit: Haven't dug up the screencaps yet, but I remember reading through this thread as well, yellow tinting also discussed.

Nope, the French Release has 3 versions of AoD on it. Theatrical, Director's Cut, and International.

So, which is better: the French or Gernan release? This is one of my top 5 favorite films of all time and I want it to have the respect it more than deserves.

You know what be great; if Shout! could also work something with Anchor Bay, StudioCanal/Lionsgate, and Sony to release a complete film collection!

You're probably good getting either one since the director's cut is from the same source. The German release is Region B whereas the French one is region-free.

If you get the large box version of the German release, you get the TV cut as a bonus.

The theatrical cut on the French disc is super yellow, though, whereas the German one looks closer to how it's looked elsewhere. Not sure how that came to be, but I have to hang on to my lousy Screwhead Edition because of it.

With the German you also get a DVD of the TV cut, which is interesting to see, and has some material not in the other versions, like the line when Bruce says to the guy "you want some more?" finally has context, though I liked the absurdity of it in the other versions.
The 6 disc version is just dual format, so I tossed those DVDs to put in the FR, UK & US BDs. It's been reissued in a 3 disc version without the dual format discs.
PQ is pretty similar between the French & German BDs.
For a decent looking BD of the US theatrical cut you need the UK BD (I haven't seen the OZ theatrical BD).
Or you can wait & see if Shout really does this soon. (Note: I only have a 42" so I haven't really had a problem with their releases, though I sit really close, but I can still appreciate the technical improvements of some of my double dips).

I honestly hope Shout never gets to release this movie. I'd much rather have Universal or Arrow UK to handle it. Especially for Universal to make a comprehensive release with a full-blown 4K remaster of all elements needed and offer the major cuts via seamless branching with a ton of extras.
I'd never even want it in my collection if it were released through Shout.

Is the extended Ash & Sheila bedroom scene only in the tv cut, director's cut or both? Would love a proper U.S. Bluray with this version of the movie without having to import it from somewhere else.

The Australian set's TC isn't yellow (it's an exact copy of the Screwhead blu, right down to the menu), and I think their DC is identical to the German and French discs? I don't have the other sets to compare it to, but I did post screenshots of the Australian set here, and compare it to multiple past releases, including the US blu. Broke down all the extras and what-not, too.

^Aus DC

^Aus TC

^US TC

On the one hand, the TCs looks sharper and brighter than the DC, but they also look a little boosted, with maybe a little edge enhancement or unsharpen masking?

What about the theatrical cut? That's the cut I like the best. Is the PQ better?
