DVD, sure, but until Shout did their edition Universal hadn't licensed it out in the US for, what, ten years spanning the HD DVD and BD releases? Just glad it's coming in any case.

I guess that is true. But it just occurred to me that AoD is more like They Live or Flash Gordon than, say, The Thing, in that Universal only has the US rights and they have shown that they are more than happy to license UHD rights in those cases.

Flash was an odd one though, they'd always clung on to it very tightly in the US as I can't recall it being licensed in the BD or DVD era and Universal rinsed it with several re-releases on Blu (of the same disc), as well as all that business with Ted 2. Then boom - Arrow managed to get it off them.

But yes, you're right that they seem a lot happier to licence out titles in the US that they don't have worldwide rights to, although American Werewolf's in the opposite situation outside of the US as Uni have licensed it to both French and German distributors for UHD release, so it'll be interesting to see if they bother with a US edition themselves.
