If you're not on the Frame io platform, you can sign up for a free account and test HDR files thanks to Panavision who provided some HDR demo material on the Frame. io/HDR website.

These references to 12-bit or 16-bit are rather misleading as the article doesn’t qualify the specifics for their citation. These display panels are only 10-bit, who knows if the processor firmware is operating at 12 to 16 bits?

If only true 12-bit panels were really on the horizon, to give us better pixels.

Sunderland lad through and through is Jordan, I understand he has done a lot of charity work for our city. Wish we had the platform to have kept him here but our days of winning top flight titles (6) and trophies fizzled out in the 1930’s except for that famous FA cup win over Leeds in 1973.
Due to that very successful spell in the olden days, just three trophies would see us jump into the top 10 most successful English clubs of all time. We currently rank 13th despite many decades of no trophies. Quite astonishing really.

How we have fallen.

Hopefully, the much discussed takeover occurs very soon (Michael Dell’s associates if you believe the rumours) that’s Michael Dell of Dell computers.

On the TV drama, I ended up going back to Best Buy to get a refund on my tv. The reason being is that the tv qualified for a my member discount. It was going to make the tv much less. It was a Samsung 75" LED 4K tv. I left Best Buy having returned the tv (so to speak as it's not been delivered or installed yet) for a 82" LG 4K TV that cost over $500 more than the Samsung. And I bought two 4K movies and 1 blu-ray movie. I ended up spending $375 more money today. There goes my savings. God help me if I can get through this year.

Thanks for the link, Lee. I know that LCD tech is not without its myriad issues, but I am glad to know there are still improvements to be made AND that manufacturers are pursuing these improvements, and not just giving up.

They can't afford to. Useable production rate of LCD panels is like 98%. The last time I looked it was about 68% for OLED. That's why they are more expensive. 32% wind up in the garbage.

IMO they are moving in the right direction with LCD: miniLED backlites and dual panel. The issue is cost. They have to be below OLED and not just a little.

You can’t fool me Waboman, despite what you say, I’d bet you’ve already viewed this Netflix doc more than once wearing your favorite kit all the while eating a baguette and drinking wine –

well Agent Kay , if you’ve done due diligence and watched one of the above posted videos in its entirety, you should now know how important good lighting is for optimization of HDR finishing, ergo, a worthy official patch of the production -

Anyway, given that some vfx work has been done on the 2nd trailer that some with a keen aviation eye may have noticed (the fighter jet on a stick switch at the gate of NASNI, the hypersonic special aircraft guard shack flyover in the dez, etc.)....
good visual effects can also be important (https://www.smpte.org/sections/san-f...ntent-creation ) Agent Kay , ergo, another worthy official patch made to commemorate the production -

Thanks for this. I add these things to my YouTube watchlist and then forget where they came from. And following their discussion at 1hr 2mins, now I've got to add Rattlesnake HDR to my movie watchlist just for that sunset

EDIT: What is the name of the film he briefly mentions at 1:24:25? Is he saying "Cuarón did Roma"?

And Agent Kay, as Geoff D may surmise, the locations - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post16844182
patch is one of my personal faves –

although, choosing between aerial locations for flying between snow-capped granite spires - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post16848134
is a bit beyond my expertise

the discussion starting about here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJsz0foS0NI#t=1h22m10s

Pablo is likely referring to Butterfly Kisses (BF) - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2634623/

It’s nice to occasionally hear some B&W HDR analysis given the more common investigation of stretching the WCG with movies -

As an aside, you might recall that attention to *non-colored* imaging also holds merit in HDR R&D, e.g. - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post13205705

Yes, after the short discussion on BF, he said "Cuarón did a RRRRoma". Sometimes I actually have to run the subtitles on content involving folks who don’t speak English like me. For example, I often had difficulty understanding every word when Tim Roth spoke in Seasons 1&2 of Tin Star, but I’m improving as long as they don't use some colloquial slang .

Anyone know why the studios are not very consistent with using Dolby Vision? I like it a lot but it seems like Goonies and Beetlejuice are two recent titles that Warner decided not to use it. Also Universal seems to have released some titles recently with only HDR10
