Richard,
heads-up…new documents (regarding HDR) for the next ITU-T/ISO/IEC Joint Collaborative Team on video coding meeting coming up in S.D. have recently been uploaded, as of now, a couple still are pending approval by the Chair. |

December SMPTE report from Atlanta (~ 50 members attended in person, additional participation via remote access) soon to be posted on the official site, which at this moment as one sees only includes the meeting from Paris. (https://www.smpte.org/standards/meeting-reports).
December not much really of concern to readers here. Project group 10E Dynamic Metadata for color transforms of HDR and WCG Images is progressing along. |

1 - what is HDR? 2 - what is Dolby Vision? 3 - if I bought this projector solely for upcoverting my standard 1080P blurays to 4K, would that alone be worth the investment? In other words, does unconverted 1080P content look different (better) than what I'm used to seeing? Keep in mind, I use the Darbee Darblet and that thing does wonders to the sharpness. Even upconverted, I believe I should still be able to use my Darbee Darblet on it since it's still a 1080P signal. Many thanks in advance. Last edited by paperthin567; 01-13-2016 at 01:50 AM. |

I won't litter the thread with fan boy stuff but I'm just flat out stoked. Can you imagine The Godfather in HDR 4k?

I feel a Sony OLED would push things forward, seeing how much work they put into their monitors. I'm fine with my kuro for now. Like....really fine. |

You’ll find adequate basic explanations by tech writers and company reps of what ‘HDR’ is all over the internet these days as well as, even many YouTubes with people illustrating it, e.g.…..
At this time, what you won’t find too much about is HDR12 (p.148 – https://wikileaks.org/sony/docs/05/d...at-1.0.doc.pdf ,but don’t worry about that for now. Dolby Vision vs. the open standard (HDR10) ? see…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post11710128 Something else to keep in mind is that for typical narrative motion pictures you won’t get (contrary to marketing people pushing it) that great of a visual bang just out of WCG alone…..unless it is complemented with HDR, see 2nd paragraph, last July….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...w#post11011071 before discussing color volume became en vogue. |

Geez Sap, how many hours you got on that plasma now? Seems that Kuro is like the Energizer bunny rabbit. Anyway, good to see old members still participating in the hobby.

Mine's been retired to practical non-use by now. It's a gaming TV, which isn't even something the Kuro is great at.
It's got the red bleed still, and at 50", it's just not a "primary display" to me anymore. I suppose I'm glad my 65ZT60 died on me. While I did get a chance to experiment with projectors for a few months, I ended up with a 65JS8500, and can't wait to see HDR/4K on it. |

I remember you had the red tint. I don't have any on mine. If i do get it i know how to fix it and lower blacks. Not really expecting to. It would of happened by now. 4K is nice, but it's not something big enough where i feel i have to run out and buy all new stuff for it. I'm more than satisfied watching blurays on the kuro. I'll get there eventually. For now the only 4K i'm buying are the bluray combo packs to future proof. Even then, it's going to be highly selective titles. Looks like you'll be paying for the extra resolution; over $40 for a new title but less for a catalogue title
