Nothing in the story is especially new or shocking - although still sad to see what Governments can/will do to suppress their citizens.

Most Americans probably can't get a Covid-19 vaccine until mid-2021, CDC director says

Quote:
Anyone thinking a vaccine will quickly end the coronavirus pandemic shouldn't get their hopes up. Instead, they should wear a mask -- which is probably even more effective, the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

A mask more effective than a vaccine per the CDC? I know that masks are effective and I've supported them well before the CDC did, but that doesn't show much confidence in vaccines if they really said that.

Doesn’t Really matter. The people who refuse to wear a mask are the ones who refuse to take the vaccine.

My apologies. It was more of a rhetorical question in response to the posted article.

Not directed at anyone in particular.

I am unable to comprehend how a mask is better than a vaccine.

That goes without saying, but why even bother with an ineffective vaccine in the first place?

Seems unethical to me.

The point being made is any vaccine will likely not be 100%, many numbers are floating around, but several of the experts are any vaccine may only be 50-70% effective.

And that doesn't even include the issue of the growing reports of people 'recovered' getting ill again.

It is. The problem is, people won't do it. Maybe if people would try it, they would see for themselves that it actually works.

I am rather naïve about the effectiveness of vaccines, but even I know that a stupid annoying mask has some benefit.

That's why I wear mine without raising a fuss about it.

At least they aren't asking me to wear a full scale bio-hazard suit.

Bingo
Glad to hear Robert R. Redfield, M.D., under oath mind you, re-emphasized the importance of masks.

As some may recall, I follow Stanford, e.g. - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...d#post14650075

On that note, more than 100 Stanford affiliates in areas such as epidemiology, infectious disease, immunology and health policy condemned the “falsehoods and misrepresentations of science recently fostered by Dr. Scott Atlas” in the letter. The authors cited the Hippocratic Oath and their “moral and ethical responsibility” to speak out.

The open letter - https://drive.google.com/file/d/130O...4QHaRi0-r/view

The conductor on my Subway this morning: 'Please wash your hands with soap and water". All this time I've been using orange juice

The city is going to start fining anyone not wearing a mask $50. There was a well-dressed Wall Street type on the train without a mask this morning. Are they going to give him a ticket or will they let him off with a warning? Sometimes I wonder if people like him know something the rest of us don't.

I don't know how effective the vaccine will be, but if they say that you'll have to wear a mask and social distance even after getting vaccinated, then that's just going to give more ammo to the anti-vaxxers.
