I don't go to the theater much any more, usually just wait until their home video release, but there's a lot I'm looking forward to next year:

Logan
Alien: Covenant
Wonder Woman
War for the Planet of the Apes
Dunkirk
Blade Runner 2049
Justice League
Star Wars VIII

With Disney's track record with Star Wars I'm betting it'll be my favorite movie of the bunch.

I'm just going to save some time, and get this out of the way now.

1. Baby Driver (*****)

I'll be genuinely shocked if that isn't the case in 12 months.

I'm most excited for....
  • The Snowman (Scandinavian crime novels, television and film is one of the greatest trends of all time)
  • Murder on the Orient Express (glad to see Branagh finally back to doing something worthy of his talent)
  • John Wick Chapter 2 (hopefully this is not a case of an unncessary sequel; it appers to be legitimate so far, although action films have a freakishly long history of garbage and unnecessary sequels)
  • Kong: Skull Island (I had originally dismissed this out of hand, but after seeing that trailer HOLY SHIT)
  • Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (I just love anything to do with pirates, I think it is a fascinating subject, so even "bad" movies about pirates I tend to love, so this is in some ways a shoo-in, but the trailer actually looks outstanding aside from any bias I have)
  • American Made (this is right in my wheelhouse)
  • Blade Runner 2049 (I am in principle a little skeptical, but all the big Blade Runner fans are excited so I guess I have cause to be as well, plus the director and star are a proven golden combination)
  • Land of Mine (some are counting this as 2017, although I will surely be watching it before the years end; anyways, I always like to support Danish film and this one looks great)
  • The Dark Tower (could be sketchy if they change too much, but Elba and McConaughey is a legendary combination)
  • The Coldest City (as octagon said: does anything about this thing not sound AWESOME)
  • T2 Trainspotting (yeah, buddy!!)
  • Baywatch (Efron has shown himself to have impeccable, top-pedigree comedic timing in some films that range from otherwise abysmal to solid; give him Dwayne Johnson to work this and we may looking at something truly special)
  • Dunkirk (Nolan is at his best when doing something grounded, as seen in Following and Memento, so hopefully the power of love doesn't come and ruin this one, but it looks outstanding so far)

Also, of course, looking forward to continuations of the great TV shows, like:
  • Twin Peaks (YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES)
  • The Americans (most slept on slow of the last few years)
  • American Crime (just the best, John Ridley is a great man)
  • American Crime Story (I was blown away by the first season, I am sure they will do equally well in the next one)
  • The Affair (arguably the greatest show on TV now and pretty close to the greatest ever made)
  • Better Call Saul (best prequel ever)
  • Mr. Robot (who would have thought that a hacking show would be so engaging)
  • there will likely be many great new series as well

Could not care less and am not at all invested in (spoilered for the easily triggered and those who don't want negativity this close to Christmas):
[Show spoiler]
  • Star Wars Episode VIII: The Empire Boogaloos Back
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Volume II: It Wasn't Funny the First Time Around and It's No More Charming Now
  • Fifty Shades Darker: Well, it's not like we could have made it lighter in our Nicholas Sparks version of S&M
  • Logan: The Train Still Hasn't Stopped
  • Thor: Chris Hemsworth is so bad an actor he has made all of Norse mythology a slog and the battle of Ragnarok will be no different
  • Power Rangers: Why, Just, Why?
  • Insidious Chapter 4: It's Still the Same Thing as Every Other Insidious and Conjuring Movie and It Still Sucks C**ks in Hell Which is an Unfair Subtitle in that It References a Horror film so much better that They May As Well Not Be in the same Genre at All
