How many BRs have you listened to? Have you listened to tracks such as Cloverfield, The Incredible Hulk, Terminator Salvation, "9", Transformers, etc.......? The G.I. Joe track is good, but not great or even close to reference IMO. There are a number of much better tracks than G.I. Joe.

+1, but like you hinted at, this may be one of his first blu rays.

Crystal clear dialogue and the outstanding soundtrack pops throughout.

Gotta concur, personally, I found the track to be disappointing.

Thanks for all the suggestions people. I'm writing them down as I read along. I went blu in 07 & STILL am the only person in my inner circle that has a BD player and a decent sound system to enjoy'em on. :itsnice

I'll have to admit though, when I watched G.I. Joe I didn't realize the dialnorm on that was set at -6. I'm sure it would have sounded better if I bumped my master volume up 6 notches. Either way it wasn't that great. So far my favorites are (not in any particular order):

Master and Commander
Casino Royale
Kung Fu Panda
The Incredible Hulk
Taken
The Dark Knight
U-571
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

It sounds very good once you turn the volume up to -15 or thereabouts.

+1..........I watched G.I. Joe right around reference level and it was plenty loud..........just lots of missed sound spots (check out the opening alone) through the first 3/4 of the film and dynamics were not up to par with the best action films such as the ones I mentioned, and LFE use was just OK. The last 1/4 of the film improved, but still not up to speed with the better/best on BR.

As noted, I was turned up much louder than this.........just not all that impressive IMO. Play any scene in G.I. Joe then throw on something like the final battle in TIH, or something out of Cloverfield.........noticable difference

This one is only the best from a specs standpoint. It sounds very good in ways, but that damn tape hiss type sound kills this one for me. Another one in my humble opinion of course that is not anywhere close to being "the best".

Sorry to be a little controversial here as I know audio is subjective, but I strongly disagree with either Akira or G.I. Joe being anywhere close to "best sounding" BR disc.

Yeah...because they're different films. Different films have different styles of sound design.

Your right, and the sound design in G.I. Joe is weak compared to what you are seeing on screen..........it doesnt support the film as well as it should have. The openig scene alone as I mentioned sounded severely compressed and should have been very dynamic with huge bass..........didnt happen. Look at what is going on in G.I. Joe........if the sound had been done right, it should be up there with tracks such as Transformers, TIH, Matrix 2 and 3, Cloverfield, Terminator Salvation, etc.............these are all valid comparisons as far as audio and G.I. Joe falls short IMO. Not even close to the best. Even though these are all "different styles of sound design", they all belong in the same class as far as impressive audio......G.I. Joe cant hang with this crew.

Audio is very subjective though and if G.I. Joe does it for you even after listening to all the usual reference tracks, then more power to you I still say throw on something like the gas station scene in Terminator Salvation up through the bridge and then throw on the best scene in G.I. Joe which would be something in the last 1/4 of the film.........not even close IMO.

Another one that smokes G.I. Joe is "9"..........have you watched this one?
