nice one. "Follow that Bird" has some serious LFE action.

Signs - 5.1 PCM 24bit lossless audio

This is one of the best lossless audio tracks I've ever heard.

Although Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live At Radio City may be one of the best BD's out there for audio quality, you don't want to put your guests to sleep, so keep it lively.

The new Police: Cerifiable or Queen Rocks Montreal/Live Aid might be better choices. Elton John might be a good alternative as well. Although I'm a lover of Jazz, I wouldn't recommend Legends of Jazz or Chris Botti either.

Keep it up upbeat and enjoy the party!
I agree with this recommendation. Some of you guys don't have any common sense when answering this question at all. You recommend what you'd like to see not what others. Seriously at a New Years Eve party I would expect to have some females if not half females there with there significant others. Do you seriously believe females will watch Band of Brothers or Blade Runner? When demoing things to crowds you have to show something that appeals to the masses. No one wants to sit through an entire movie on new years especially testosterone driven action flicks or whatever. Music is something that's always great at parties especially if the majority of the crowd is into that genre. And you'll get great material to show off your surround sound. If I wanted to demo to a whole bunch of guys then thats different but for a diverse crowd definitely a concert bluray.

I don't think Signs BD features 24-bit PCM. The LPCM track is 16-bit.

You're not alone. It's a great scene and definitely demo worthy.

I think most people skipped the disc because it came out before most had BR players and the master the disc was made from was kind of soft on the video front.

I might just have to watch that scene when I get home tonight... just for fun. It's been a while since I have.

For a new year's eve party, I would suggest Baraka. For a couple of reasons too:

1. The AQ and PQ are superb. This BD has a 24 bit DTS HD MA track.
2. There is no dialogue in the movie, so as a viewer you don't have to worry about "what did he just say"?
3. The message of the movie is deep. Might just start a nice little conversation with your attendees.

Also, the bean scene in House of Flying Daggers is soooo cool. Make sure that you choose the Chinese 5.1 uncompressed track. I love that movie. I just wish that Sony spent more time giving us reference quality PQ. Very much looking forward to Crouching Tiger and Hero on BD.

Seriously, has to be Dave Matthews Time reynolds Live at radio City. Just when I think I find something better, I put that back on and am Blown away again.
I bet the Within Temptation: Black Symphony blu is amazing as well. Though I only have the DVD.

That is good if you like Dave Matthews I don't care for his music so it could very well be the best sounding disk but I would never buy it

I think master and commander ranks very well as does cloverfield. Granted some did not like cloverfield but if you want some great bass extension those two are very good movies.

I don't think anything else is even close. Read the reviews on Blu-ray.com and you'll see that there wasn't one person who scored the audio lower than a 5. Even people who didn't normally concern themselves with technical matters commented on how good it sounds.

Whenever anyone comes over and wants to check out a Blu-ray demo, that's what goes on.

So is the case wrong? I know Disney has been wrong on some of their specs in the past, but do you have any proof that they're wrong here?

CONCERT BD...CONCERT BD...CONCERT BD.....

No Baraka! (Tied with Planet Earth and The Lives of Others as my fave Blu-rays).

No Dave Matthews! (Best concert PQ/AQ along with Legends of Jazz). Dave doesn't have a wide audience and this disc will put your guests to sleep.

Keep it upbeat! Show off the PQ/AQ without having your guests commit to full length view on a night like this. They wanna party!

My recommendations:

Police: Certifiable
Queen: Rock Montreal & Live Aid
David Gilmour: Remember That Night
Roy Orbison: Black & White Nights
Elton John: 60 Live At Madison Square Garden
ZZ Top: Live from Texas

Party Hardy and worry about the headache from the beer (or whatever other indulgence you like) tomorrow! Your guests will love you for some great sound tonight!

Happy New year and have a blast!

this thread convinced me to pick up Matthews/Reynolds yesterday, and I'm loving it! Unfortunately I can't do TrueHD yet because of my receiver, but the DD mix is beautiful, I can't even imagine what the TrueHD will sound like. I think I'll use this as my test Blu when I get my receiver. I'll first play in what I've always known DD to sound like, then go back, play the same song, and use TrueHD to see what a difference it makes. Now if I can just deciede what damn receiver to buy!!!
