It depends on who I'm showing it to, but I use The Dark Knight for the most part. Hellboy II: The Golden Army is another one I like to show off.

although it's a 7.1 track I played on my 5.1 system, I thought The Golden Compass had tremendous audio

yeah, just start episode 2 and see what happens to your surround sound system.

i did it last night with a friend over.

he started to shake, then ran out of the living room. he watched the rest from the front yard through the living room window. he said the volume was great outside. ...and that my soffet on the roof was vibrating

I can vibrate my walls with dialog if I want to.... doesn't mean it's the best sound!

I like Master and Commander, and also Ratatoulli for audio...

Default Favorite surround sound moments?

What's your favorite surround sound moment? I know proper surround sound should "envelope" you with sound and be somewhat invisible ambience - and I get that and appreciate it. But every now and again it's just plain fun to whip your head around and either say "what the f*** was that?!" or "hehe, that was cool".
My first experience with this was seeing Eraser in the theatre - when the villains are sneaking up on the house, a dog barks in the neighbourhood and I turned around wondering who would bring their dog to a movie! From that point on I was hooked

My current fav is from The Dark Knight when the Joker is firing the automatic gun at the armored car - the camera switches to inside the car and you hear the bullet impacts walk around the front speakers to the back speakers.

The other old(er) school favorite is the rooftop shootout in The Matrix - slo-mo whizzing bullet goodness, that is...

Thoughts? Suggestions? Opinions?

-----

PS - I tried searching for this topic and couldn't find it (or something similar)
PPS - I know there's a topic about favorite sounds (deep bass, tinkling highs, etc) - I'm more curious about surround stuff for this thread...

As I just watched it Friday...

Twister has some amazing surround sound moments. The opening credits is enough to get you sucked in. Pun intended.
