The DreamWorks/Paramount opening logos in both Transformers have exellent use of panning effect throughout all speakers. The rest of the movies will continue to impress you with the extensive surround use.

Many other movies actually. The beach scene in Saving Private Ryan. More as I remember.

Recently I watched two BDs that have great surround sound, see pretty much all the battle scenes in The Pacific and also the scene in Book of Eli where they were shooting the house.

TOP 3 Movies with 7.1 Audio:
HELLBOY II
THE EXPENDABLES
3:10 TO YUMA

HELLBOY II has an Incredibly Impressive & Detailed (& LOUD!!) 7.1 DTS-HD MA audio track.

Stallones's last RAMBO (2008) also has a kick-ass 7.1 track, along with his recent THE EXPENDABLES, which is prob. the best 7.1 release for 2010.

3:10 TO YUMA - one of the Best 7.1 (LPCM) audio tracks around.

Also, TOY STORY 3 - 7.1 DTS-HD MA, very nice audio track as well.

THE PUNISHER: WAR ZONE - DTS-HD MA in 7.1 audio.

*** NOTE: Most (recent) Lions Gate films have 7.1 Audio ***

I think the OP meant the best use of surround, not necessarily 7.1. It all comes back to sound design.

Of course thats high on list but i want to hear stuff wizzin around ! Blu-Ray of course , dont have Saving Pvt Ryan yet but any other ideas would be great

Thanks

Chris
The best surround usage I have ever heard was in Nightmare Before Christmas, (dolbytrueHD 7.1) honestly.
Add to that that its a musical, and yyour surround will get a real workout.

I have to watch my bluray, but there's a 7.1 track ?? I thought that it was exclusive to the 3D version and not the standard bluray commercial release.

does your kid have 'Titan A.E'? the DVD has a jaw dropping DTS soundtrack

on another note, the Canadian 3-Disc edition of 'Brotherhood of the Wolf' has a DTS track that is basically akin to sonic whiplash - to say the mix is assaultive is an understatement - the sound and use of surround sound is aggressive as sin.

sadly no, but to hear this in DTS-HD MA would be utterly exhilerating!

its not on bluray, but the DVD of 'Stormchasers' (the IMAX feature) has some of the loudest replications of a storm, the thunderclaps could easily damage speakers if played to loud.

Super Speedway (bluray) features a ton of race car sequences that will also test the ampage of your receiver, again this was an IMAX release so the surrounds are omnipresent.

I haven't heard the DVD, but the DTS laserdisc of Casper - while dated, has a very impressive 5.1 mix, notable in that the ghosts when circling the viewer their voices literally dance around the surround channels
