Cool thread. I've got to get in on this one. For me the audio experience is more important to me then the visual.

Hmmm... some holy crap moments...

Cars: when the hotrods approach Mac and the sub is pounding. I could listen to that a thousand times and not tire of it. This is reference for the sub.
Incredible Hulk: when he screams... wow!
Dave Matthews and Tim R.: this was my first Blu-ray concert and I could not believe that this sound was actually coming out of my speakers.
Hitman: the shoot up in the bar. I had to check for bullet holes on my couch after that scene.
Police Certifiable Concert: all I will say is BUY IT NOW!!
Transformers: ditto what has already been said multiple times.
2001: any of the musical scores.
iRobot: tunnel scence... I had to check my windows.

I could go on but enough for now. Blu-ray rocks!

I don't think this was mentioned but Mr. and Mrs. Smith has some really good demo worthy scenes particularly the one where their home gets shot up.

Master and commander sounds great. All the creaking and cannon fire are the best.

Transformers the whole movie sounded like I was there.

Legends of jazz showcase, Al Jarreau and Kurt Elling "take five"

John Mayer where the light is, the trio set

this is not on Blu, but definately worth checking out. Bruce Hornsby, "Three Nights On The Town" is a fantastic concert dvd. Not only does he take requests from the audience via pieces of paper being thrown on the stage, he improves his ass off. The key moment is "Fortunate Son". No, it's not CCR, it's his song. But what makes it awesome is he transitions the song into "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd. The sound on this track is great, guitar solo literally surrounds you. I don't even know how to explain it, it is just great. Must be checked out by anyone who appreciates great sound.

Yeah Hornsby always does that when he plays solo - you usually don't know what he's playing until he starts singing it.

I requested "The Road Not Taken" when I last saw him solo and he read out the request as I had written it which was pretty cool. That's a sign of his talent that he can just go through requests like that and try and appease everyone.

He is easily one of the most talented musicians I've ever seen play along with Victor Wooten on bass, Joe Satriani on guitar and Carter Beauford on drums.

I was wondering about this. I don't have a subwoofer (yet) - but when the pinky drops, it sounds like my poor Titans actually distort! I wasn't sure if that was how it's supposed to sound or if it's just too low for my speakers. Apparently it's the second. I can't wait to hear it with dedicated LFE...

Recently, the part in the Dark Knight where Bruce Wayne and Lucius Fox are "test" firing those high powered guns. The reverberation that guns produce is just amazing and sounds insane! I had to rewind it like 5 times so I could re-experience the aural delight!

There are many others. Too many to list,

Default Best Audio

Chapter 8 in Spiderman 3 where Peter gets into a scuffle while driving on his scooter. That 3-5 minute sequence has great highs and lows, and also one of the best things about blu-ray I think, is the cinematic sounds of some of these movies. It seems to seperate the sound track, from the movie track.

Also in Spiderman 3, when the sandman (right before he becomes sandman) is in the sandpit after running from police, with that infusion thing starts to spin up around him, it its all the the surround speakers sequentialy and can give you a real good audio buzz.

Another great one never mentioned is Casino Royal, the newer bond movie. The opening scenes have some awesome sound.

Some of my favorites:

The Brooklyn Bridge scene in Cloverfield
The escape of the one tiger in Kung Fu Panda
The dinner scene on the U-Boat in U-571. You clearly hear the plates and the table and the silverware moving back and forth. I swear I can hear some soup spilling too! Then of course any depth charge or sub sinking scene.
The scene in MR AND MRS SMITH out in the desert with the charges.
The lower Wacker Dr scene in THE DARK KNIGHT.
The storm battle scene in MASTER AND COMMANDER.

Default The BEST Audio Quality Blu-ray Megathread

I have a party at my place coming up on New Years Eve. First time I will be showing off Blu to others so just wanted to ask what is the complete reference material audio Blu? I want to have them in awe because I have a nice Surround Sound system to go with my TV.

I know its pretty opinionated but I'd like to hear what ya'll think and I might make the movie I show based on that.

Thanks.

Some ideas:

First and foremost Band of Brothers
Blade Runner
Kill Bill (either one)
The Dark Knight
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man

All of those have amazing audio quality that will leave any non-believer in awe.

The Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds live from Radio City in Dolby TrueHD.

I don't think anything else is even close. Read the reviews on Blu-ray.com and you'll see that there wasn't one person who scored the audio lower than a 5. Even people who didn't normally concern themselves with technical matters commented on how good it sounds.

Whenever anyone comes over and wants to check out a Blu-ray demo, that's what goes on.

Master and Commander no doubt. Iron Man, and Rambo are pretty good and ones I use as well when showing someone for the first time.
