Ten Commandments was in Vistavision. The film was 35mm, but the orientation was horizontal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VistaVision It's not 70mm, but it's still higher resolution than normal films. Recently, I got my hands on a UK copy of Peeping Tom. That film will never win prizes in the resolution category, but the color was phenominal. i've never seen a more beautifully transferred color palette. It bests Criterion's Red Shoes, Pandora and the Flying Dutchman, and Criterion's own DVD transfer of Peeping Tom for color and contrast. Modern effects films are usually sharp, but no modern film comes close to the richness of color of a good three strip Technicolor film. Last edited by bigshot; 08-02-2011 at 04:17 AM. |

Rango I agree with, but I have all three of these and 2001, for it's age, easily looks better than Saving Private Ryan to me. The Thin Red Line is actually a better-looking movie if we're comparing strictly 1998 World War II movies. ![]() SPR is a fantastic transfer but I think the way it was filmed makes it inherently a little less pretty than 2001. Just my $0.02. |

My wife watched Valkyrie recently and the audio in that is FANTASTIC.
I never noticed it before however I was in the other room when I heard the sub and wow. The scene when they are in the bomb shelter might be one of the best out there for audio. It was really fantastic... I think it is in my top 5 audio movies now. |

I'll give a couple:
Transformers 1&2 - Every action scene is awesome! Never disappoints! Tron: Legacy - Best disc ever when your considering sfx + soundtrack. Band of Brothers - Some of those set pieces are just freaking incredible. WALLE - On one end you have ship landing on earth rocking your HT and on the other you have the space waltz caressing your speakers. |
