Of the over 400 BDs I have heard, the one that stands out is Saving Private Ryan. The opening has the best directional sound effects I've heard, you almost want to duck as shells and bullets are wizzing from the beach toward the shore, no matter what direction the camera is faced. The most impressive sound effects are when in the boats, facing the sea and you hear a shell come from behind the camera, overhead and then travel past and explode.

I've always enjoyed using Transformers: Dark of the Moon to demo my speakers setup. Especially when Driller Bot attacks the Chernobyl Plant or the Manhattan Skyscraper. Craziest sound design.

For full on Bass Workout, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, when Optimus and Megatron do their somersaulting flip in the warehouse.

I saw Saving Private Ryan in the theater on opening day.
It and Schindler's List are the only two films, that have ever left me speechless and stunned,
after watching them in a commercial theater.

SPR has been sitting on my shelf since June 9th.
I just can't bring myself to watch it, mainly because of the Omaha Beach invasion scene.
The sound design is so chillingly realistic, that it makes me nauseous and that whole scene
is just so overwhelmingly heart wrenching.

TDKR and Finding Nemo definitely need to be considered. Both are outstanding!

I'm not just talking about bass, but overall sound design, surround activity, environmental effects, how well the score resonates, etc.

Prometheus and Amazing Spider-man had all of the above IMO.Haven't watched TDKR yet, I'll be doing so for the first time this weekend..
I purchased the amazing Spiderman but I haven't watched it on bluray yet but tdkr is pure perfection.

No surprise at all it won the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Effects. I think I am going to look into seeing the films of sound engineer Gary Rydstrom, on BD, which include some mentioned in this thread such as Finding Nemo.

While I admit The Dark Knight Rises is a very powerful, bass-heavy track, not sure it's that Articulate?

Pretty cool when you watch a movie and you at first think the sound you hear is your from in house or outside it instead of the movie.

Depending on what movie your watching, that could be a very scary thing to happen late at night, while watching alone.

TDKR may have the best audio of a 2012 Blu-ray release.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is hands down my favorite. That opening battle scene is epic!!! The first time I watched on Blu-ray when the crew was walking on the deck above I actually looked up at the ceiling because I thought somebody was walking around upstairs but then I realized I lived in a concrete house lol

I gotta second this. It's an immersive track that has plenty of non-showy scenes drenched in atmospherics that keep you on the boat even when in quiet quarters that could easily feel more like landlocked sets without audio attention to detail.

Why do people keep calling The Dark Knight Rises the best AQ of 2012? It's the one with the most bass but that is no way to judge the AQ. I've noticed many scenes where the bass is quite simply unkept and borderline boomy. In some of the scenes, the dialogue is mixed way too low and can hardly be heard over the music. The surrounds kick in during the action sequences but atmospherics during non-action scenes are barely existent. The first appearance of The Bat is noteworthy where the bass is like a wave that swoops over you. But the sound design is nothing compared to that of Prometheus or The Amazing Spider-Man.
It's good and I would rate it as 4 out of 5 but it's nowhere as good as the above two movies which IMO are the best sounding Blu-rays of 2012.

Agreed! In addition to amazing bass and amazing detail!
