Curious to see reviews on this. Sony has always done well with their players in the past. I might sell my Oppo and get this depending on reviews.

Sure it will be nice, I wish they had put DV on board like their display line.

Hmm...I have a Samsung KS8000 in my living room, and I don't know if I should get this Sony 4K BD player, or the Samsung K8500.

What about the Sony vs the coming soon LG? At the price those two look to be coming in at, not sure I can justify the Panny or Oppo price???

Not sure on that one.

First advantages is the LG will have Dolby Vision, seems the Sony will not. If that does not matter to you, then it could be a tough decision. My gut says go Sony just because their players have been great for years, and their streaming support is very good. I'm not as familiar with LG players.

I do have both the LG and Sony on preorder, because I intend on comparing them directly.

No one knows. What I do know is they have been very open about their displays getting it, but NOTHING on the players. So I have my doubts.

No rush I'll wait for reviews, I just bought an Xbox One S and I can see that I'm going to want to go to a standalone, the picture on the One S is Ok but I know it can be better as My Samsung BDF7500 is better for standard Blu Rays than those disk on the One S, but I can live with it for a bit until some other 2nd Gen players come out, get reviewed, and hten maybe go onsale

"The company’s first 4K Blu-ray player hitting the market will be the $299-suggested UBP-X800, in stores in March and followed by the specialist/installer-dedicated UBP-X1000, as yet unpriced."

http://www.twice.com/news/blu-raydvd...rojector/64305

These first generation 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray models from Sony might not support Dolby Vision. Or maybe a future firmware update might offer it.

I am interested in the UBP-X1000 model since it looks like it might have 2 channel analog stereo outputs for a multi-zone A/V receiver or for those consumers that need 2 channel audio for older stereo systems. The UBP-X1000 might also have RS-232. But this needs to be verified to make sure the information I got is correct. That might be the only 2 differences between the UBP-X1000 and UBP-X800.

The $299 list price on the UBP-X800 is nice, this should easily see a street price of $199 by Christmas of 2017. Great price for a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player that plays SACD's and DVD-Audio discs. Plus 4K streaming is a nice feature.

With disc playback features much like the Oppo 203, and this surprisingly being the first Sony player with DVD-Audio capabilities (just like the Oppo's) one should wonder if Sony isn't utilizing OEM Oppo player guts in some respects, or wholesale farming out the manufacturing of these two players to Oppo.

After all, Sony's new OLED's are basically LG sets with some modifications. Sony is struggling as a company across the board (much like Samsung), so I can see them shifting much of the development and manufacturing of electronics to other, stronger companies.

The OPPO UDP-203 and UDP-205 does not offer any 4K streaming. If the Sony players can receive a Dolby Vision upgrade with firmware (that is a big if), then the Sony's are a bargain for those that want or need DVD-Audio and SACD playback. I never use the 7.1 analog outputs on the OPPO Blu-ray players, however at one location I do use the 2.0 stereo outputs on the OPPO since there is some outdoor stereo speakers that some family members use once and awhile.

This Sony player is on my radar and watch list for some TV locations that are currently using a 2010 Panasonic 1080P Blu-ray player.

Sony have been using MediaTek silicon in their Blu-ray players for a good long while now. It was said that they were waiting on an off-the-shelf UHD Blu decoding solution, and now they've got it. OPPO were in there first with a customised version, now the mass-market chip is coming and if it carries over x feature from the OPPO tinkering, so much the better. I have no doubt that this chip CAN be capable of being upgraded to play back Dolby Vision UHD software in the Sony machines, the question is IF Sony will pony up the licensing costs to have it activated.

And "LG sets with some modifications", are you kidding me? Give a monkey and Leonardo Da Vinci each a piece of paper and some paint and you'll get different results, to be sure. Sony's processing destroys that of LG's, front to back, top to bottom. Yeah, OLED is such an inherently good-looking display tech (near-black troubles aside) that not even LG could make it look bad, but installing Sony guts inside one of those is a potent mix that gives me the goosebumps.

I like that; a universal BR player for the 4K masses. And it is 3D Ready...for the 2017 3D 4K front projectors. ...And for the 2016 LG OLED 3D 4K TVs.
