If this player got a web browser and Plex, I'd be in good business. Nice to see the WWE Network on there. Are they about to start having 4k?

Another app I would like to see is a YouTube app that supports 4K HDR.

Yes!

I was thinking of getting the Chromecast Ultra just for that.

HDR support depends on the hardware of the device, not on the app. YouTube HDR requires VP9 Profile 2 support. When YouTube HDR was enabled on Samsung TVs, it was through a firmware update, because it already had the necessary hardware.

I don't think it's been confirmed that this player supports VP9 Profile 2.

I wonder if the apps are getting more updated for the upcoming X1000ES launch.

It'd be nice if we'd get Amazon HDR.

I emailed Sony Benelux customer service about the X1000, still no info on a possible European release date.

If you are asking about 2017 LG OLED's ?,
Robert Zohn has confirmed no 3D.

I have a 2016 55" LG OLED with 3D. I was just wondering if anyone can confirm that they have successfully played 3D content on one using the Sony.

Sorry for mis-understanding. I have Sony TV and Oppo-203, so no info on your 2016 TV.

All my 3d discs have played flawlessly with this player.

One more question - Aside from the initial firmware update, is wi fi required to use this player? I do not have internet in my apartment.

Required? No. But you will want to hook it up occasionally to get subsequent firmwares for it. That may be a hassle depending on your situation. There's some kinks that need to be ironed out for sure, such as some macroblocking occurring with certain Fox Blu-ray discs (not 4K, but regular Blu-ray), and that will only be resolved with future firmware.

Just add HDR to Amazon, UHD to VUDU, and offer FandangoNow(and include 4K HDR), and I can dump my Roku Ultra. The Sony 4K app would be a nice bonus too. I still can't believe that's not included on a Sony player.

Agreed. The other I find funny that it isn't there is PS Vue. These are THEIR products, you would think they would have them on everything they sell.

Sony is a strange bunch sometimes.

The Plex app hasn't been added, but I was messing around this morning with settings and I'm able to access my Plex server and playback all my stored movies. You don't get the thumbnails but all the other info is there (recently added, recently played, etc).

Anyone have issues with branching on Blu-rays?
I watched Wrath of Khan last night and it lost sync at every branch point.
