After getting up this morning I tried again to update the firmware, and it worked. So, it took about 3 days to get it to update. I did not make any changes in the Network Settings module, however last night I went through them just to re-check what each was showing. I then played parts of The Amazing Spiderman and Quantum of Solace regular Blu-rays just to tweak some picture settings. Speaking of which: Audio and Picture Settings are my next task. I have this hooked to a Samsung UN60KS8000 TV and an antique(by today's standards) HTiB, SONY HTSS2300. I am using the 2 HDMI outputs from the player: a 2.2 to the TV and an older HDMI to the Receiver. If anyone has a similar setup and care to share settings, much appreciated! |

I contacted Sony, went through some steps, nothing got it to work. They were willing exchange the player for me, but the USB updates work for me so it's not worth it. Hopefully it randomly works one day. |

I can double check this weekend, but I think I went into the GUI menu on the receiver, then system setup, and then HDMI setup. I can’t remember if there’s an option to just turn off the ARC function, but I think that’s the area to disable it. HDMI control off should do it if there aren’t any other options in that menu. Hope that helps.

Hi guys,
I'm new to the thread and I'm considering this player and I need odd information that I can't seem to find anywhere. Does this player have an A-B Repeat function? I can't find a list of the "options" menu and no one on youtube has covered it. It seems like a trivial feature but I'm a guitar player and A-B Repeat makes learning parts a million times easier. Thanks to anyone in advance. Take care, ~LD |

I just tested this out on a video file (I didn't have any audio files handy to test this on audio file) but during the playback of a video file, when you press OPTIONS button a side menu appears and it has "Repeat Setting". Clicking on it it gives me 4 options, "Off", "All", "Folder", "File". Again I don't know if those options would be different if it was stricly an audio file... I looked through the manual and I don't see any reference specifically to A-B repeat function. |

Comparing Goodfellas 4K on the UBP X800 to the 25th Anniversary blu ray on my PS3 Slim, and I'm having the same issue I have noted previously. 4K UHD looks lifeless with low contrast when compared to the blu ray. I just don't get it. I have the player running directly to my tv (LG B6) for video, and audio running to my receiver (Pioneer VSX 1120K) because it does not have 4K pass through. The HDMI used for video is new, and is supposed to be capable of delivering 4k. So why does it look like shit compared to a blu ray played on a PS3?

My Wonder Woman 4K UHD Bluray froze up during the Aries & Wonder Woman battle for a few seconds but after running it back a scene or so it played fine afterwards. The only other 4K UHD Bluray that I've played so far has been the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows 4K UHD Bluray, that movie played fine. The cgi characters looked more natural compared to the regular bluray, while some of the human characters looked too white or washed out.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=298423 Not everyone will agree with my findings and that's fine but I urge you to try it. Some if not all LG sets currently have their HDR modes tied directly into their dynamic contrast setting, which I would normally advise keeping disabled for SDR viewing. However, on LG sets, having dynamic contrast disabled results in a dim, dull image. I have paid particular attention to black crushing and blown highlights on my LG and I see neither with dynamic contrast on low or med. Med gives a bit more life and I believe it's because it allows the TV to achieve it's full potential in HDR. Avoid high as it's a bit much to my eyes, but at any rate, give it a try. In the thread I created I linked to some discussion on another site that breaks down this issue with LG sets. |

Does anyone know if the UBP-X800 has undefeatable noise reduction, as I've heard the BDP-S6500 does and want to make sure that was just an issue for that model or if it affects all Sony's Blu-ray players?

Hi,
I have the Ps3 too and in my case I find the x800 has better picture. A couple of things I suggest to check (on the player): 1)that you are not converting the signal to SDR, If you have that on while playing press the option button there is an HDR conversion (4k disc only) setting that depending where it is can make it very dull. If your TV is HDR you should not enable conversion anyway which will make this choice disappear. 2)also through the option button -while playing -try direct on the video setting. For last on the TV I don't know with LG but I have a Sony from this year and it took me a while to discover that the advance picture settings are memorized independently according to the input/signal you are using and if your tv is the same as mine that may be causing you issues because you'll need to adjust picture specifically for that particular source. |

I have a question I hope a number of you can answer. I have been using the XBOX One S for the last year or so for my UHD 4K Blu-ray player. I am debating on upgrading to the X800 due to the price being so low. Those that have witness both players, is there any significant difference in picture quality or HDR? I want an all around better player, but I just need some insight from someone that can provide details.
Thanks! |
