You might not hear the SACD through the soundbar because there might be a handshake issue with DSD. I run my X800 through a Yamaha RX-A1030, but it will not detect the DSD bitstream if I switch over to the home screen or play a movie before going back to SACD playback. I have to switch sources on the receiver before the DSD bitstream will reconnect. I got tired of this, and just had the X800 output the DSD data as PCM. Works every time. Next time you hear silence from the soundbar, you should try switching to a different source and then switch back. If that works, then it's probably a handshake issue and you'll need to force the X800 to output the SACD using PCM. |

I have many UHD HDR MKV files with high bitrate (UHD BD remuxes on an MKV container) and I have no issues playing them on the X-800 except that it doesn't play Dolby TrueHD files on an MKV container but it's not hard to convert Dolby TrueHD to DTS-HD Master Audio having the right tools...

Watching the new Suspiria Blu-ray and my player just randomly shut off. This is the second time this has happened (the first being in the middle of watching the Raw Blu-ray). Is this a known problem? Should I exchange my player for a new one?

IS there any update on whether this will get Dolby Vision?
I'm thinking between Sony and LG UP970. LG supports both HDR and DV. Thoughts? |

"edit" but once you select direct it should remain that way, you don't need to change it every time you insert a disc. Last edited by cochon; 12-22-2017 at 06:29 AM. Reason: addition |

This is an excellent player at a lower price that you would expect for the quality but all the information at this point indicate this Sony player will not be upgraded to DV.

Need a little X800 audio advice here -
My Denon receiver had trouble relaying the 4K signal to the TV when the TV's HDMI ports are set to 'enhanced' - just outputs as snow. It's fine when when they're set to 'standard' and displays as 4K/24p HDR - looks fantastic but ideally I want enhanced soooo.. I thought the easiest thing to do would be to send video straight to the TV so I can have the HDMI port 'enhanced' and send the audio to the receiver via the second 'audio only' HDMI port on the X800. Trouble is I can't get any sound from the receiver when I do this. Everything else works Roku, Blu-ray player, even the X800 when both video and audio are sent through the same cable so the receiver itself is fine. Tried different ports and cables plus the usual cursing and throwing things ![]() My two questions for anyone who has the time to answer are - 1) Are there any settings on the X800 or receiver that I might need to adjust when utilising the 'audio only' output? (FYI, I've tried forcing audio output to HDMI 2 rather than leaving it on Auto) 2) If I do leave my HDMI ports on the TV set to 'standard' what exactly am I missing out on? I am going to try to watch at least two full movies after work today and see if the problem repeats. |

Have you ever read "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe? The kind of madness in that story will become very real for you once you hear the whirring of the LG. |

Even that LG does not currently have DV, after they pulled the firmware update that was briefly available back in September. If you want DV right now, the ONLY options come from Oppo. Aside from the promise of adding DV support at a future date, there's really nothing else that the UP-970 has over the X800. The X800 is far more ruggedly constructed, it supports more audio and video formats, and it runs fast and quiet (lot of complaints on the 970 board about excessive vibration and noise coming from the drive). Wirecutter's comparison test of every 4k UHD BD player on the market (as of October) concluded that the X800's image quality was second only to the Oppo, and ranked the X800 as the top overall pick. I haven't read much about the enhanced, I think but I can be wrong it allows 4K 60fps signal and 4:4:4 so most people might not miss on much but there is no reason why you should set it to standard ( also if my memory is right that applies to only two inputs in the sony tv). I have mine in enhanced with no problem, I had used before the two outputs in the player (old receiver). Now I have a new receiver and I use only one output. In either case had no problem. |

yes taking a step back and looking at it from a fresh perspective is the best. Insist around the Denon menu and check specs as some inputs of the receiver might be limited to onlycertain signals. Quote:
Frame noise reduction, Block noise reduction, Mosquito noise reduction, the rest is quite self explanatory |

I’m second guessing how I should connect the X800 player. Should it connect to the HDMI input on the TV (enhanced, of course), or should it be connected to the HDMI in of the sound bar HT-CT790? Why is this so difficulty? 😜 |

The CT790 has 4K HDR passthrough. So you should be able to connect an HDMI cable from the X800 to the CT790 HDMI in, then another HDMI cable from the CT790 HDMI out into the TV HDMI in (make sure you are using the tv's HDMI input that has ARC)Be sure to go into the CT790 system setting's menu and change the HDMI output to enhance as well as the TV's.
