1)Is the player connected to the receiver with an HDMI cable and then another HDMI cable goes from the receiver to the TV? 2)Are you getting sound from the 7 speakers, do you actually have 7 speakers plus the subwoofer connected? |

well i'm talking about the stereo receive when I hit display it saids dts 5.1 instead of saying dts 7.1
is it because instead of putting it on bd dvd my brother got it on tv/cd and that's why when I hit display on receiver it saying 5.1 meaning if he had put it turn on bd dvd on receiver would it say dts master 7.1 when I hit display? |

That means you have a 5.1 setup, the receiver is capable of 7.2 but it seems your brother set it up properly according to your speaker configuration so 5.1 is all you will get unless you add two more speakers and change the settings accordingly.

I just hate that sound will not come on bd dvd on receiver like it did when I had standard sony bluray player 32000 and onyko ht s3300 he got sound on receiver to tv/cd aka tv
heck I don't even see hd master or true dolby when I click on display it always going to say 5.1 dts or dolby digtal 5.1 because he got sound though tv part on the receiver its very frustrating unless somehow I need to change a setting on bluray not say that all the time on receiver you see he got turn on lg smart tv audio out optical hdmi arc digital sound on auto and simplink hdmi cec turn on<-hence sound will come out only though tv on receiver when press tv/cd basically in a nutshell he thinks only way to experience 4k with new onkyo receiver is have sound coming out of tv which I dislike very much Last edited by y2jman; 12-29-2017 at 02:59 AM. |

At first glance it sounds like your brother connected it correctly but he is wrong to say that there is only one way to have 4k using the onkyo receiver as you have at least a couple of ways to connect it and still have 4k. You have to answer ALL the following questions me or anybody else can't even start to help you because I am not completely sure what the problem is. In one post you complain the receiver doesn't display 7.1, the next post you say the sound is coming out of the TV. Where is the player connected to? tell me exactly where AND what input. Where is the TV connected to? the receiver or the player? what input/output Is the sound coming always from the actual TV set like you say on the post I've quoted or is it coming form your front large speakers? the receiver is this
![]() instead of me click on bd/dvd then bluray player will turn on i have to click on tv/cd to turn on bluray player which is the sound is going to come though the tv this is what he saying onto why he put it on tv/cd instead bd/dvd It is because it goes through the television first. It is decoding the correct way. Your new Blu-ray player is handling the audio decoding since it handles the newest format, not the receiver. That is the difference. The audio output is the same or better however like i said because its on tv/cd on receiver aka tv when i click on display the words like hd masters 5.1 true dolby hd 7.1 will never saying it instead it will only say dolby digital 5.1 or dts 5.1 since lg tv sound is audio out optical hdmi arc digital sound on auto and simplink hdmi cec turn on the encoding will not change as you can tell by the picture it showing dolby true hd<-if receiver was on bd/dvd instead tv/cd it will display it but since its on tv/cd it won't display Last edited by y2jman; 12-29-2017 at 04:48 AM. |

Ok, you did not answer my questions but you were more clear and I think I understand your problem a bit better.
There are a few points I would like to make. !)When you press pause and it says 7.1 is because the movie has 7.1 on the disc and that is what the player is showing. It does NOT mean you are actually getting that through the speakers. 2) Your receiver is not the latest and doesn't seem to have ATMOS or DTS X which are the latest surrounds but it doesn't matter. Because of the speakers you have connected 5+subwoofer =5.1 that is all you will get (5.1) provided the receiver is properly set up. 3) The player DOES NOT decode the surround, the receiver DOES and some TVs may too but in the way you seem to have it connected the receiver is the one doing the decoding. 4)I had an Onkyo for a very short period so I don't remember well but I think you can press something to have it showing the surround type that is playing, it is something you need to read or find ut yourself. For last if I understood what you don't like abut the current set up you could forget about the ARC which means when watching regular TV (unless you add more connections) the sound will come out of the TV but the movies on the player can still be played by the receiver. For that just plug the HDMI out of the player directly to the TV and there is a second HDMI output on the player (it has a sticker covering it) you would connect that second output to your receiver BD input if that's what you prefer. You could also switch off the HDMI CEC and just control everything individually. |

Remember that if you do those changes you need to run two cables from the player, oneHDMI1 to the TV and another HDMI2 to the receiver. |
