Your front projector is 1080p ... Panasonic 4K BR players would serve you best... 900, 700 or 400 ... IMO

Yes, I have a Samsung 49" 4K HDR set from 2017. It may be my internet connection, I don't have fibre, just regular ADSL at 20 Mbs, enough to watch Amazon Video in 4K HDR, that's how I watched The Man In The High Castle.

Good. Do you have another device, TV ... that let you stream Netflix in 4K?
20 Mbps might be be too slow, Netflix recommend 25 Mbps minimum.

https://help.netflix.com/en/node/306
https://help.netflix.com/en/node/13444

"The minimum it recommends for standard-definition playback is 3 megabits per second. For HD-quality playback, Netflix recommends 5 megabits per second, and for Ultra HD (4K) quality, it recommends 25 megabits per second."

Does anyone else's player shut off when a disc is on pause for a while? I can't seem to find an option to disable this.

How long is awhile? I think I recall others complaining about this.

Pause should never be used for more than 5-10 minutes.

Yes, there is such option. After 20 minutes the player will turn off.

Go to System Settings it can be found there.

I've been looking to upgrade my current player to this Sony one. Best Buy and Amazon's prices have been up and down the past few days. It was down to $199.99 and now back up to $248.00. My question is: I see groupons is selling it for $138.99 brand new. Has anyone ever ordered anything from them before? How good and reliable is that site? Hell of a deal for that player.

I am not in able to test this now, but according to my Dutch manual it's under: Parental Control Settings. There's no word in the US manual...

Try the parent settings.

Also look at System settings on X800, if you have a Sony TV:

Quote:
[Linked to TV-off]
[Valid]: Automatically turns off the player
when the connected TV enters standby mode
(BRAVIA Sync).
[Invalid]: Turns off the function

I'm also curious on this. I want to upgrade (currently using an older 2013 bluray player from samsung) and saw this for $138 on groupon and livingsocial.

I'm an Amazon Prime member and ordered mine from Amazon and it arrived 3 days ahead of promised delivery date. The box was in good shape.

I have no problem ordering from Amazon. It would just be cheaper from groupons. I would love to save some bucks if possible.

After CES new players are announced, I predict this will go down in price again closer to new models getting released.

Either be patient (they were $150 around BF, or lower), or pay what you must if you need this immediately.

Wish I had gotten it for that price around BF. I is $150 with tax and shipping included from groupons though. Was just curious how reliable that site is.

Panasonic's unique video processor has a dedicated function for it:

"Unique optimized tone remapping technology for UHD Blu-ray to SDR conversion maximizes the features of 4K content and delivers a better experience than Blu-ray on a SDR-TV."

"Like its Panasonic siblings, the DMPUB400EBK delivers class-leading HDR-to-SDR conversion for users who don’t own a HDR television, or projector owners who do not wish to trigger HDR mode for fear of elevating black floor without noticeable peak luminance benefits. Colour conversion looked properly saturated, blacks were not clipped and there’s no visible posterisation, none of which could be said of OPPO 203′s attempt."

_____

HDR > SDR

From my readings the Panasonic players are among the best @ this.
Oppo and Cambridge players are next best @ this. ...From my readings.
Ask anyone who has a 1080p front projector or HDTV who compared the 203 and 900.
The Sony 800 is not up to it; the setting is too limited and each 4K Blu-ray disc requires a different setting.

True, the 800 is three to four times less money, depending of where you live.

Anyway, a 60" 4K UHD HDR TV today you can find for $800 ... or less.
All these players, the 800 included, that's all they're waiting for, a happy match made in heaven.

⭐ Bonux: http://www.techradar.com/reviews/son...blu-ray-player

By the way, Sony 800 and 1000ES, and Oppo 203/205, and Cambridge 4K Blu-ray players use the company MediaTek for their video chips. The Oppo and Cambridge are custom designs, premium that have the guts to swim in Dolby Vision waters in the middle of winter when the temperature dips below zero and the winds push the snow @ 100 miles per hour.
Their players are 4-wheel drive too, all terrain vehicles ready for the Rockies.

The Sony 800 is amphibian. ...Waterproof and with an attitude.

Curious, is there a way to get the Blu-ray covers of the film to show up on the home screen like they used to?

Not that it bothers me, more of curious than anything.
