However, when I flip back and forth on the X800 between Dunkirk 4k and the regular Blu-ray, I feel like there is a slight soap opera effect with the 4K, while the motion on the Blu-ray looks better to me.

Do my eyes just have to become used to viewing 4K, or is there some secret setting that I'm missing that specifically affects the motion?

I appreciate any help. Thanks!
I have the LG c7 and love it now my setting are set right why do you keep changing setting to get 24fps you should select the 24 fps on your player and just leave it at that. Also then play around with the settings on your tv in till you are happy with the picture and just leave it at that.

Do you have TruMotion turned "on" on your tv? That's the first thing that comes to my mind. I keep it off. It can give that soap opera effect.

I have my video output settings in the main menu set to auto and upscale to auto 2. Is this what i should use for all content (4k, blu ray, and dvd) and should i leave 24p on for everything?

Yes leave 24p on for everything. Also turn deep colour to off have the upscale setting turned off and turn video resolution to 4k.

I keep seeing ‘turn deep color off’, but why?

I used the following settings as a baseline (it's for a B7 but I personally like the results on my C7):

https://www.avforums.com/threads/lg-...tings.2106641/

I use the ISF settings for my regular blu-ray watching depending on how the light is in the living room and the HDR Cinema setting for 4K stuff.

Keep Deep Colour enabled on the X800 (I assume you have it set on the input on the C7) and just set the resolution to direct. For me I prefer the C7 upscaling to the X800 for regular blu-rays.

Brilliant thanks for this and yes I will turn deep colour back on for the upscale setting do you have it turned off so the tv does the upscaling?

I have it turned on both on the HDMI input on the C7 and set to Auto on the X800.

It's great looking and fantastic really cheap priced machine, but they did maybe one hing not and that is:
Why didn't they put Dolby Vision in the machine? Than it would be a more complete 4K than others. This was a bad move in my opion.

First, Dolby needs to get their act together.
So you can't blame the Sony X800 player.

Dolby screwed up with Vision, and they also screwed up with Atmos exclusivity to 4K.

Like someone just posted over in the Oppo 203 thread, I'm looking for a region free mod kit for the Sony X800. Does anyone know where I can buy one cheap, or have any other recommendations?

I think it's a case of doing some soldering. All I can find are pre-modded X800's for sale on eBay.

On my double affaire with Sony and the technicians servicing my X-800 I got some surprising news today.
First Sony told me by e-mail that they are not giving me a new player. O.K., fair enough.
Second, the technician at the repairing center they told me they are changing the player's main board but they still need to receive "a file" to make the player work. How is that? It's the disc drive what doesn't work, the player plays mkv 4K HDR or HD files via USB, from a tumb drive or an external HDD without freezing. Streaming works fine, it's the disc drice what doesn't work. It gets power, when I inserted a disc it made sounds and when I output the disc it gets out on a different position that I got it in, so the disc spinned. If they need a file from Sony why didn't Sony included it on a flash drive? What about a link to download it?
I told Sony to tell the repairing center not to scratch the front and side plates of my player, that I took pictures of it before taking it to the repairing center, that if I see a single scratch, I won't be accepting it.
Sony has become a mean company, a shadow of what once was.

not clear whether this what you're looking for?

Settings :: General :: HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color (on/off)

(it should automatically prompt you when you first turn on a connected 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player)

On the C7 you either set it to on or off. You can find it in the General settings under Ultra HD Deep Colour, you have to scroll down a bit.
