1. Unplug the player for two minutes and plug it back.
2. Perform a reset...page 26. |

Apologies if this is the wrong thread to ask this question in - I'm not really sure where it belongs, because I'm not sure which unit in my home theater is causing the problem.
I have the UBP-X800, a Sony X850B TV, and a Sony BDV-E390 home theater in a box (I know that last component is seriously lacking, but it's leftover from before I started taking my home theater seriously, and it's still suited me fine until the present). Because the E390 doesn't have an HDMI in (Or really any inputs that help me here other than an optical in) the way I've got this all wired is the X800 into HDMI 2 on the TV, and an audio return channel between the E390 and the TV via HDMI 1 on the TV. Anytime I play a disc on the X800 (UHD, BD, or DVD - makes no difference) I only get 2.1 audio through the E390. However, if I'm playing anything streaming from the X800 (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) I'm getting the full 5.1 through the E390. So...what's going on here? I have tried just about everything I can to get 5.1 audio from the discs, and nothing seems to be working - no combination of settings between the three units will produce the surround audio, an optical cable instead of ARC doesn't do it, nothing. I finally broke down and called Sony on Friday for support - after two and a half hours on the phone with them, their answer was "Well, just turn on DTS Neo:6". I am getting 5.1 audio if I have DTS Neo: 6 turned on on the E390, but the audio just doesn't have any sort of power or channel independence like it should with the native surround audio track on the disc. I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to think it may be some sort of physical limitation, but in that case I don't understand why I would get 5.1 audio from streaming on the X800, but not from a disc on the same unit. Am I just missing something really obvious here to get the proper audio to output? |

Here's a question to all X800's owners:
When you play a 4K Blu-ray disc, can you hear it spinning during silent passages? ...In a quiet room, like a bedroom. Brief, do you find the 800 quiet or noisy? ...Say as compared to other 4K players, including the Oppos. |

I also have my X800 in the bedroom and it's also very close to me, about 1,5 meters I would say. There I mostly watch movies in the middle of the night so I have to keep the volume down considerably. Luckily the X800 is real quiet, I can barely hear it spinning even with low volume when watching a movie.

Thanks to both of you. I too have a X800 and I hear nothing, even on silent passages, from roughly 7-8 feet away. I'll do a test tonight; from few inches away and compared to an Oppo 205.
Anyone else? |

With HDMI if a cable is compliant with all relevant 4K specification requirements, use that one. It will be fine. Cable construction is another matter entirely. That said, I prefer Blue Jean Cables for their top-end and budget HDMI cables. All well made. Stay away from monster cable if you don't want to get ripped-off. |
