how can somebody update without having to do usb stick, do you have to be on wired in order for this to work because don't work on wireless?

I’ve found that I’ll get that failure to communicate with the server message atleast 80% of the time. I keep trying and eventually it connects and I can update. In fact I just updated wirelessly after maybe 30 tries. I don’t own a computer so I would have use someone else’s computer to grab the update with a flashdrive.

I've had an LG 870 player for some time, and just recently got a Sony X700. Sony has an online support forum and while on there looking for anything on the X700 I noticed this:

A: Sony doesn’t have any plan to update Dolby Vision for UBP-X800 and UBP-X1000ES. Update is technically impossible from hardware standpoint. We looked at all options to update these two models, but were unsuccessful due to hardware limitations.

Sorry, but it looks like you need to consider an X700.

So, everyone loves what this new firmware update does with their streaming apps and Blu discs?
...Better high resolution, definition, dynamic range, whites, blacks, ...all that important jazz.

Yeah, pointing it out for others who don't follow things as closely.

And for that matter I'm hoping for a DV firmware update for the X1 only (no extreme) processor Sony TVs like my 850E. About as likely . . .

I just did it that way as well with my lexus flash drive its simple

Just downloaded the lastest fw. SW Last Jedi still skips but only momentarily at Chapter 25(01:02) and Chp 32(01:23). Player no longer freezes like the last fw.

I'm thinking I'll get the 700 for the theater room, whenever that happens.

I made a change.org petition for Sony to release a Dolby vision update for the X800. I know the chances are slim of Sony doing something about it. But who knows. Anyone here switch from an X800 to an X700? Is the X700 a better 4k player for performance than the X800 despite the build quality being better on the X800?

It's very sweet of you Nico, and if Sony could they would.
There is no use though because the X800 as sweet it is doesn't have what it takes for a Dolby Vision firmware upgrade. Sony would have loved to oblige and make us all happy, they truly would, but they simply can't. And I don't blame them for not rushing things out; they rushed stuff enough with their TVs DV low latency.

You would need a miracle, like sending your unit to them, and have an engineer removing parts and replace them with new parts...a serious surgery operation. That heart transplant would probably cost approximately one billion dollars, USA dollars. It's simply best to just buy the X700 on Black Friday for roughly just $99 ... much less expensive.

And I'm sure Sony has something new and magic coming up eventually this side of sprinkling 4K Blu-ray players. The best 4K Sony machine is yet to come ... with an ES engine inside?

Mine won’t connect to their server just yet for the update, like others have mentioned. I’d say they have some way of delivering the software at varying times (by serial number or some other method) so as not to plug up their server. Guess we can wait or go the USB route...

With that movie, it would be better if it skipped straight to the end credits.
