I just bought the Sony X800 player and I noticed that the rear right rubber pad on the bottom of the player does not make contact with the surface it's sitting on. When I put a little downward pressure on the rear right corner of the player, the player will wobble a bit. The other 3 rubber pads do make contact with the surface it's sitting on. Is this normal for this player?

Silly question but are you certain the surface is 100% flat and not slightly warped? If you turn the player around (facing backwards) is it still wobbly? |

I wish there was some confirmation on if this player suffers from the forced DNR issue I asked about that is affecting some Sony 4k upscaling players when sending out 1080p.
Here's the original thread about the issue: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=298106 |

Ah, then I guess it's off unfortunately. Hopefully others can comment on if their player has that issue.

I also tried placing it on the kitchen counter and all 4 rubber pads made contact with the surface there, then I moved it to a different counter in the kitchen and only about 3/4 of that rubber pad is making contact with the counter. I then went back to put it on my TV stand but this time in the middle and all 4 pads made contact with the surface. However, placing it on the floor or the right side of my TV stand, that pad does not make contact with the surface.

Got it today, seems like a good player but I have to point this out. Sony has the most ugliest and bland Menus I have ever seen. I guess I got so spoiled with the gorgeous Menu from my Sammy K8500 where it actually shows you a small image of the movie as oppose to Sony's scrolling the title, very boring.

I have the Sony XBR55X800B, and I bought this player. It doesn't have HDR and the white is overpowering and there isn't a lot of color. For reference, I'm watching the hunger games. I turned off HDR, which has helped some...but I feel it still looks washed out. Do I need to change anything else or should I wait to get a player until I have a TV with HDR?

That's just my own opinion of the interface. I remember years ago looking at a Sony TV and thinking the same thing - of all the TVs I was comparing, the Sonys had the absolute ugliest menus of them all. It's also too bad that for the initial price of $300, they can't bother to throw in a $1 LED in the remote so you can see it in the dark. There's no excuse why in 2017 a premium player like this still requires you to turn the lights on to use it, when I can walk into Wal-Mart and buy an illuminated junk remote for $10. I've been waiting all year for it to drop to this price point, so I just ordered one tonight. And, I'll be able to finally watch my two 4k movies that I have owned for a while now. Hopefully, more 4k films will drop in price later this month.

When you open the receiver, you will see one of the two hdmi outputs listed as for 'audio only'. I think a sticker actually covers it. Run your hdmi from that audio hdmi output to your receiver. Select that input when watching a 4k. Boom done. Easy as pie. (Just select the input on your tv then for the picture but I think u know that) ![]() |

Just found it myself. While playing a disc, hit the options button and select the video options. Direct is the first selection on the list.

Before I got a 4K capable receiver I did the same. The old receiver had a feature called "HDMI auto sync" that worked pretty good for 1080p. With my 4K setup it only worked when the third cable was also connected. The downside to this was that the TV always switched to another input when I paused a movie and started it again. If you don't have an auto sync feature and the the audio delay adjustment can only be done on screen this should work, too. All players (I guess, at least the Samsung K8500 and the Panasonic do this) put out not only the audio but also a 720p black screen with it. So you should be able to switch the TV to the receiver's input, adjust the audio delay and switch back to the input connected to the 4K player. |
