Interesting, I do NOT have a close captions setting, not there anyway but somehow that rings the bell like if might be somewhere else in mine. How long since you bought it and is it from a place you can return it? I'll have a further look in my other settings in the meantime.

Well I am very surprised, mine is an Australian version but I don't think that is the problem. You can use the reset function but judging but what we had discussed I doubt it will solve the issue.

Only way I could update the player when I received it was to go to the Sony website, download the firmware to a USB and install it to the player that way. https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model...d#/downloadTab Even after the update, and hooked up via the Ethernet, I get the same error message when trying to search for a new firmware, even though the streaming services work just fine. Not sure if I missed something, but I registered the player and all. Unless it's a setting I may have overlooked. Eitherway, this will get your player up to date. |

Leonidas,
I solved (not) your problem, I think there is no solution. page 24,25 gives the answer. https://docs.sony.com/release//Manual_4687309111.pdf It seems in the US they replaced that option for the close caption which I don't have. So probably all the people mentioning the option are from other countries. |

How could they omit this feature is beyond me. The Panasonic UB900 also had this problem of auto shutdown being forced after some time of inactivity. I hate things like this, I decide whether the player should be turned off or not. At least make things like this optional. |

I got my 4K TV on Sunday and my player arrived from Amazon yesterday. From what I'm hearing, my HDMI cables will probably work since they're not to old, but I'm wondering what others use in case I need to buy new ones.

I didn't try my old HDMI cables, but I am curious if they would have worked.
I bought new ones from Wal-Mart. I forget which brand, but no more than $10 each. You definitely do not need expensive HDMI cables. |

It's a major drawback for me that the US version of this player does not offer a Auto Standby off feature since I could go on for a while having something Paused, not to mention no screensaver which is the strangest part. You would think in this day and age every player would have this. What a letdown! I rely on pausing my features more than usual and I just cant have this player turn off automatically. I got it for a great price that it hurts to return it.

I bought an inexpensive Amazon Basics 4.75 meters HDMI cable and problem solved, not a single problem of losing picture or hand shake issue. The Amazon Basics HDMI can handle 2160p 10/12 bit at 60 Hz without issues so go cheap and try an Amazon Basics HDMI cable and if it doesn't work you can ask for a refund. |

It does make a difference because, Blu-ray Players that are made overseas or from another country, are not manufactured the same as the blu-ray players made in the U.S

LOL, no auto off. That is the most terrible gripe ever, but OK.
I mean, are you sitting there watching War for the Planet of the Apes, and then just go out and do 3 hours of yardwork? Pick up the cute little weee-mote, and hit the green button. |
