I could crank the settings up to compensate, but that doesn't seem like the optimal fix. Maybe there is an issue with HDR that I can't quite figure out. I can make the picture brighter by pushing the HDR conversion bar to 1, but much like cranking up my settings or turning the tv on Vivid, it doesn't make it right. If you have to change the picture settings drastically, then the source is obviously flawed.

Again I don't know if those options would be different if it was stricly an audio file...

I looked through the manual and I don't see any reference specifically to A-B repeat function.
Ok...thank you VERY very much. I really appreciate it.

It looks like a great player and I'm probably going to end up with it. There are other ways to learn tunes.

My Oppo died twice and I'm done with the brand altogether.

Thanks again man.

Strange. Is this the only HDR device that you have? Maybe a streaming box or gaming console that gives you different results in HDR?

When playing the 4K movie, do you have it set to direct in the "options" menu of the UHD player?

Really odd as that set should be showing a great HDR image.

Two questions I didnt see answers to anywhere yet: are you getting the HDR notification bubble when you put a UHD disc in? Are you sure the the HDMI cable you have is rated for 4K AND HDR. It is my understanding (someone correct me if I’m wrong) but a standard hdmi cable could transmit 4K but a high speed hdmi cable was needed for HDR due to the increased bandwidth needed for the 10 bit signal.

Yes, you need HDMI 2.0a for HDR, HDMI 2.0 cable is not able to accommodate HDR.

I come from my Sammy K8500 which actually has a screensaver and takes a good while to automatically power off. Its not really a gripe with this player just a disappointment, it’s all about convenience and this player doesn’t offer something that could have been easily included.
Last night I was playing a movie to tweak some settings. I did not finish the movie. I stopped it, ejected it, and turned off the player.
Tonight I put the same disk back into the player. When the movie was supposed to start a message popped up requesting: Resume movie? Yes...No.

Could this be a solution for your breaks?

No sure if you were just trying to be a smartass with this comment. But no, that goes on a totally different note of what Im trying to come across. First, the player should have had a screensaver installed. Secondly, that Auto Standby off feature should have been there just like like European version of the player. Also, not every single 4K and/or BD movie supports the Resume feature.

No, I wasn't trying to be a smartass, I was trying to be helpful. But I'll try not to let that happen again, any effort to be helpful, that is.

Some blu-ray players shuts itself completely off, when it's on pause for a long time, or inactive, which is a good thing because it protects the unit.

I posted this on the previous page, and received no response. Would REALLY appreciate some input

I have a question I hope a number of you can answer. I have been using the XBOX One S for the last year or so for my UHD 4K Blu-ray player. I am debating on upgrading to the X800 due to the price being so low. Those that have witness both players, is there any significant difference in picture quality or HDR? I want an all around better player, but I just need some insight from someone that can provide details.

Thanks!

Can folks recommend a good 4K movie that really shows off 4K well. I have tried Passengers and Angry birds...and so far the clarity over regular o'l blu ray is not there. Looks about the same. Checked the tv to make sure it was receiving 4K and it is...HDR bubble pops up too. Had to turn my tv settings down cause the picture was all blown out, but now looks about right except the resolution quality.

Wondering if these two movies might be bad samples to be judging by.

Mate, those are stunning 4K titles, especially Passengers.

It's not the discs...

Yeah, I mean a 2K-finished CG animated movie mightn't be the BEST thing to check for sheer 4K resolution but damn, Passengers is terrific. Shot in 6K, finished in 4K, if you can't see it there then you ain't gonna see it anywhere...

Thanks guy's. Maybe I am expecting to much. Thought everything 4K would look like the demo stuff I see at BB...only maybe even better coming off a disc. I'll fiddle with the settings some more...try a bit of fine tuning here N there. Maybe I just haven't spent enough time adjusting it.

Quick update, for some reason the TV had automatically set the resolution to off. I set it to the highest, "super resolution" and...cleaned right up, clear as could be...

I have the X1000es which is essentially the same player, and it has a screen saver that you can enable/disable on the player's "system settings" menu.

I have not noticed any difference on UHD or Blu Ray but I did not use my xbox one s for long because I hated literally every aspect of it as a blu ray player. 3d movies would often require me to unplug and replug in my HDMI, even with a remote I had to buy (because using the controller to navigate blu ray was terrible) it was still clunky, I often got random slow downs watching films almost like when a video buffers. It was hands down the absolute worst player I have ever used. If you havent experienced any of this then I would probably not upgrade. What I can tell you about the Sony is that it is faster in every aspect (load times and response to commands) and its upscaling for dvd's is amazing. I have actually been going back and enjoying some of my old dvds just because of how good it is. I even compared it to just letting my TV (LG OLED C6) do the upscaling and I think they Sony is clearly superior. I also had the Samsung K8500 which I am selling to a friend but I got annoyed at the FF and RW being shared with the chapter skip buttons. I also now have youtube HDR through the Sony which my TV's built in youtube app does not offer. I am extremely happy with my upgrade but you might not see it as as much of an upgrade really.

I know the cable I bought said it was for 4K, but I can't recall if it said 2.0a. I guess I'll give it a shot, at this point I have nothing to lose. My tv does display the HDR bubble when I play a 4K disc btw. I have tried changing to direct, but that looks the same as Auto, so I just leave it on auto. Is direct the proper setting? The UBP X800 is the only 4K player I have right now, and I'm well past the return period. When I first set up the player, it automatically adjusted my television settings which cranked my oled light and contrast to the max. Is this necessary? It just seems odd to me because, nothing else requires me to do this to achieve a great picture. It just seems counter intuitive considering the format itself should look superior at the same video settings. Thanks for your help everybody! I really do appreciate it.

If you are getting the HDR bubble then your cable is fine. I personally use direct on mine but I am not sure that will make a difference. I believe you said you had the B6 corect? If I am not mistaken I believe there is talk on another forum (not sure if I can mention other sites on here) about a new firmware update that "broke" HDR modes on that set. On the same site there was also a fella that discovered tone mapping was more accurate with HDR GAME and color set to wide. It also calls for DYNAMIC CONTRAST to be set to HIGH (he previously stated medium and changed it, I am awaiting a reply from him on that decision) which I used for awhile but I noticed detail being washed out. Now, I am not the worlds expert of even close to it on HDR but some people have said detail does get lost because the highlights introduced by HDR will hide the details and that that is all part of it. Its also quite possible that you, like myself are not entirely sure of what to expect from HDR. Marketing makes it sound like the whole picture is supposed to jump forward at you with realism that you have never seen. In my experience this is only the case in short demo videos and maybe a couple of movies (Lucy, Planet Earth 2). The majority of what I have observed is basically better color accuracy and shadows and highlights that are more realistic. I also would not be half surprised if the dimming of the overall picture (which does in fact happen on my set as well just not to a terrible degree to what I am used to) is not a trick or algorithm to make highlights appear even brighter when measured against something that is not being touched by light. Also for reference for my set my settings for standard blu ray viewing have my OLED setting at 50, HDR mode does jump them up to 100 for both OLED and CONTRAST as you stated and to me the difference in overall brightness is similar. If you typically view blu rays with an OLED of 100 then going to HDR mode will definitely look a lot dimmer. Is it possible for you to take a couple of pictures of a movie with HDR and then its standard blu ray disc for us to observe the difference? Also what settings you have on your X800 and TV.
