My OLED settings are;
Oled Light - 57 Contrast - 80 Color - 42 (Wide) Brightness - 53 Sharpness - 17 Tint - 0 Color Temp - -4 These are typically what I use for broadcast tv and movies. Sometimes I tweak the settings (color especially) depending on what I am watching. I turn off noise reduction, tru motion, and all that stuff, but I do set Dynamic Contrast to low. The settings on the UBP X800 are all set to Auto. I tried to take some comparison photos of the opening scene of Baby Driver with my iphone, but neither picture looked accurate. I could best describe it as, the blu ray looks like Baby is in a shiny, bright red car on a sunny day, and the 4K looks like he is in a dark red car on a cloudy day in November. Some may say that the 4K looks more neutral or natural. I just think it lacks the sharpness and pop of the standard blu. The difference is quite considerable. |

The Sony UBP-X800 is now on sale again at retail stores and mail order companies for only $149.99 plus free shipping from places like B and H Photo until November 18th at 11:59PM eastern time. Then these players go back to around $198 in theory until maybe $149.99 once again for Black Friday weekend. $149.99 appears to be the absolute lowest price for the year 2017 on this model. This is half off the retail list price of $299.99, and I am thinking about maybe purchasing a couple of these players for gifts for family members even though these players do not have Dolby Vision HDR. This is a much cheaper price then the $549 OPPO UDP-203 with Dolby Vision HDR, and the bedrooms these would be going in would be connected to only 1080P displays with no HDR. If I ever did upgrade the displays to 4K Ultra HD I could always purchase a new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player later on that offers Dolby Vision HDR. I will need to purchase a USB stick to use BD-LIVE since there is no 1GB of internal persistent storage on this Sony. I also hate there is not a rear USB port, I would end up getting a USB extension cord that sticks out the front most likely.
Also some people with projectors or older flat panel screens need to purchase a Roku Ultra for around $100 for Netflix and VUDU streaming if they go with the OPPO UDP-203/UDP-205 since there is no streaming built in. Sony has built in 4K Ultra HD streaming apps. https://www.sony.com/electronics/blu-ray-disc-players/ubp-x800/buy https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1317680-REG/sony_ubp_x800_4k_ultra_hsd_blu_ray.html Last edited by HDTV1080P; 11-18-2017 at 09:23 PM. |

If you look through the forum there are a couple of threads specifically discussing the xbox and lots of people seem to think that as a movie player it leaves a lot to be desired when compared to players like this one. For UHD I only have the Sony some features are lacking but I can't imagine getting a much better picture than what I am at the moment and at this price (is now back at $149 in the US) is hard to resist. I would consider the Panasonic too. I see the Oppo as a very good player but not such a great value for money option and I when it comes to players I prefer to avoid the LG or Samsung. |

However, X-Men Apocalypse in 4k was not what I was expecting. It looked good, but did not pop out, more so, than the 2 blu's. I have only 1 more 4k, Labyrinth, which I am going to watch tonight. Mine is connected to a Samsung KS8000 set. |

The higher end Sony UBP-X1000ES with a list price of $698 is on sale for $598 now with free shipping. However the OPPO UDP-203 for $549 is a much better player with 7.1 analog audio outputs, 1Gbps networking, and two rear USB 3.0 jacks.
The Sony UBP-X1000ES and Sony UBP-X800 have the exact same picture and sound quality, and the only major differences is that the Sony UBP-X1000ES has a front LCD display, RS-232C jack, IR remote jack, optical audio output, 2 channel analog audio output, and detachable higher quality AC power jack. At $598, which is around $450 more in price compared to the Sony UBP-X800, that is not enough features for most consumers to justify the huge price difference. For most consumers that want SACD and DVD-Audio playback from a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player they are either going to choose the OPPO UDP-203 for $549 or the Sony UDP-X800 for as low as $149.99. I think advertising 4K as "four times sharper than HDTV" is giving people expectations that won't be met. |

Same thing happens to HD, lots of the sources are marketed as HD because they have the pixels to fill an HD screen but that doesn't mean you get the quality the standard can deliver. How many Blurays where re-issued after some terrible BD where sold? |

![]() Sony UBP-X800 BD-LIVE and attachment of a external USB drive The Sony UBP-X800 does not have a minimum of 1GB of internal storage that is needed for BD-LIVE (This feature is found on the OPPO UDP-203), therefore an external USB drive needs to be connected to use BD-LIVE. The Sony UBP-X800 has a front USB 2.0 port for connection to an external USB hard drive or USB flash drive. This is used for BD-LIVE streaming/downloading, and some consumers play their homemade family music and family video files from a USB drive. Since a high-end external 2TB hard drive costs around $115 (I have one connected to my OPPO UDP-203), most people that purchase the Sony UBP-X800 for only $149.99 are not going to want to spend $115+ on a high-end 2TB or larger hard drive to play BD-LIVE streaming movie trailers, especially since only Universal Studios and a select few other studios are still using the BD-LIVE feature. Therefore, the other alternative which costs less is to get a 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive which is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0. There is no rear USB port on the back of the Sony UBP-X800, therefore the average USB stick will look very ugly sticking out of the front of the Sony player. I was going to purchase a USB extension cable with a high-end USB 3.0 flash stick, however even USB extension cables look ugly. Then I came across a fairly new product from SanDisk which was released back in February of 2016. It’s called the SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.0 flash drive that can handle speeds up to 150MB/s read with a capacity up to 128GB. I have not tested this SanDisk Ultra fit USB 3.0 flash drive on the Sony UDP-X800 yet, but cosmetically this low cost drive will look very good in the front of the player. If one goes to the Amazon website and types in the following model number “SDCZ43-064G-GAM46”, the 64GB version is selling for only $18.99. The 128GB version is selling for $37.99 and the 32GB version sells for $12.99 (The 16GB version is a slower drive and not the same specs when it comes to speed). The SanDisk Ultra Fit 64GB version is the best value at its current online price of $18.99. This should be more than enough space for BD-LIVE for both old and new Blu-ray titles. Its nice to see the latest movie trailers from studios like Universal Studios when a Blu-ray disc is inserted. I have not tested this USB flash drive yet. Some USB flash drives come with Windows software that needs to be erased, and some Blu-ray players (mostly older models) need to have the USB drive re-formatted to work properly with BD-LIVE. The main reason to use this flash drive over another model is its super small size which will look cosmetically good compared to the average size USB 3.0 flash drive. I forgot to mention you also need a USB drive for Blu-ray discs that use the resume play feature and to store bookmarks. Also once and awhile some Blu-ray titles do not load or work properly without the USB drive. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 11-19-2017 at 02:21 AM. |

You will also need a USB flash for resume playback, specially older Warner Bros BD's like Inception and Lord of the Rings. Also, you won't be able to save bookmarks without a flash drive. SONY should have provided a USB port on the back of the player. Their old players had it.

I think he is referring to a particular info bubble that appears on their brand of tv but if you want this player to show what signal is sending, press display on the remote and if the signal is HDR will show that, if you are playing an HDR disc but for some reason is not playing righ it will show HDR>SDR which means it is being downgraded.

An HDR bubble will appear on the right upper corner of the TV screen, when an HDR signal is detected. The same goes for Dolby Vision.
