Had a few more days with the player now. Aside from not being able to get software updates via wi-fi (it worked with a USB though) the only issue I have experienced is that when I initially turn the player on there is a few seconds where what looks like a digital glitch flashes on the main Sony menu. Perhaps it is a handshake issue with my LG OLED? It seems like this glitch is only an issue upon initial boot up because I turned the player off and on multiplie times last night and it did not happen again.
Any insights? Suggestions? |

First off, please forgive my ignorance. I just got my 4k setup. Bought this Sony player and the Sony 900e TV. The TV has Netflix and other apps built into it. Obviously, I also have Netflix on the X800 player. It's hooked up with a 4K HDMI cable.
Is there any reason to use one version of netflix over the other for better video quality? Can't I just stream Netflix 4K content from the app on my TV? |

Bought this player last night and everything looked fine. Watching THE HITMAN'S BODY GUARD right now and I'm encountering a lot of jagged edges in the text and long shots. Any recommended settings I should change to resolve this?

The drone shots in PEII aren't so hot, but some of the closeups to animals, etc... are WOW.

I have the same tv and I can't imagine getting much better picture than what I get now. If you are thinking of changing must be because something doesn't seem right, is that so or you just want to try it? |

I had also heard reviews that the quality was superior to the Xbox and after watching the first ten minutes of The Revenant 4k on both and comparing, I can say that's correct. The quality is indeed better on the Sony player. Plus now my lazy ass can have the Xbox input always set to Game mode. |

No it wasn't the only movie. And yes, it was a 4K disc. I had popped in FURY ROAD and STAR TREK (2009) when I first hooked it up and it looked fine after some tinkering. But watching THBG I noticed something seemed off so I started putting in disc after disc and changing settings for 4 hours straight. Text and long shots looked horrendously blocky and jagged. After screwing around with it for that long, I re-hooked up my Samsung K8500 and everything looked fantastic. Needless to say I took it back. Just my opinion obviously but this thing is a freakin' brick.

You might have got a faulty one, there are a few settings that might negatively affect the picture but it shouldn't be terrible.
Star trek has some very bad blocky, jagged edges on a fast moving scene near the beginning but I am sure that is caused by compression issues with the disc, the rest of the movie is fine. I don't have the other movies but certainly I haven't had any problems with text appearing jagged on my movies. |

I've had the Sony UBP-X800 for a few days now and for this being my first 4K player my intial thoughts think it is good. I can say it is quiet.
Only complaint I have on this player, is that when playing back a DVD it puts pillars on both sides of the screen instead of stretching the picture from the left edge to the right edge. Trying to determine at this point if I can notice the difference between 4K and 1080p. The only movie I own across all formats right is now is Blade Runner which I have on DVD, Bluray, and 4K Bluray. Definitely can see the difference between the DVD and the other stuff (like you could on a 1080p TV). However, not so sure if I can detect the difference between 1080P and 4K on Blade Runner. I'm playing this on a Vizio 50" so perhaps I need a bigger TV but I have above average eyesight so I figured I would detect the difference in any case. Will have to do more testing. |

I think you should be able to change settings on the player how to show DVDs (pillarboxed or stretched).
