@ only $150 on sale I don't mind giving up a rear USB jack, and that the one on the front doesn't allow the door to be closed when a USB stick is inserted.
Neither do I mind @ all giving up a play and stop buttons, a front panel display. This premium player is so affordable that its compromises are extremely minimal. Where it counts the most, connected to your TV, with the picture quality, smooth and quick operation, ... tra-la-la movies and music and apps ... @ only hundred- fifty bucks ... zero complaint for a first generation Sony Universal UHD 4K/3D Blu-ray player...none, nada, zip, nil, absolutely zero. My opinion. |

Is it perfect for only $150? Almost; for $100 It would be more than perfect.
But then, which player is perfect today? No one, nobody, not a single player. Best is to have several for all the functions we use in real life. For some folks it is the Sony 800, for others it is the Oppo 205, for me it's both. Some people love their Panasonic 900 mated with their front projectors, which was also on sale recently. No matter how you cut it all; if you have a 4K TV, the Sony 800 4K Blu-ray player is a heck of a good player for only $150 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ |

For the premium price asked Sony shouldn't rip their customers off. Then, might as well get the Oppo 203, or 205. Why didn't you get the X800 model instead; what was/were the features you valued extra more over the X800 with the X1000ES model, if you don't mind me asking, Cortiz? |

I respect that, even if my main player is behind me and I could not see it.
All players have a front panel display; by removing it Sony wasn't thinking about front projector owners, the type who don't see any of their video components, neither their audio units. Sony simply discarded what they considered irrelevant and put the mustard where it relishes the most impact; in their video chip processor and solid build player so that the new more fragile 4K discs can spin with aplomb and without being affected by the multiple subwoofers thundering in unison. ...My thinking. A front panel display is cool, and a Sony X800 without one for only $150 is cool too. The level of coolness for each one of us is a very personal decision, taste, use. In my own personal use and experience; I use zero percent the information provided by all my disc spinners front panel displays. All my Sony players are set automatically to play each disc format according to my personal taste. It works ... magic. And say I want to change from stereo to multichannel from hybrid SACDs and DVD-Audio and Blu-ray Audio, I just press the remote control button on my programmed universal Harmony remote control. And for movies there is no problem; I can see what's going on on my screen. This is me, and my personal use about front panel displays from all my disk spinners in real life @ home that I'm sharing. I don't remember if it was in this thread or another that people were asking but I've just received my US x800 and can confirm that is unable to play PAL content, that includes PAL DVDs regardless of whether they are region locked or not.

Its not a great deal for me as I want it mainly for BD and UHD. I thought there woudn't be any problem but there is as I've tried a lot of Pal DVD including at least one marked as multiregion but still is a no go. |

I really don't understand this restriction coming from Sony as my European (bought in Spain) Sony X-800 can play both Pal and NTSC DVDs and BDs with 50 and 60 Hz content. The hardware is capable, why cut the playability off? |

Seriously, $8 remotes in Walmart are illuminated now. But a $300 player can't include a $1 LED in the remote? |

This is not quite the same Sony is to blame but so are most other manufacturers when selling in the US. Like if the aren't enough restrictions with the zones you also have this to deal with this. You are right it is basically an artificial limitation. I have two, my other Australian x800 like yours plays NTSC and 60hz too, I just wanted a plain US version. Now that I've got it I discovered that but it will still serve the purpose well. Some people in the US were asking about it because when they get European discs they can't play PAL videos on lots of players and tvs. Fortunately it does not affect BD or UHD but it could affect their special features sometimes might not be playable. |

I have on the AUS but on the US player I haven't, it has M36.R0175, Judging by your question I presume that will add the capability. I was planning to do it over the weekend but i"ll try tomorrow. If it doesn't fix it is not a big deal, I don't generally watch many DVD's or extras and I still have other native pal players.

True but on top of DVDs some of the extras for people who import multi region BD discs from Europe come in low definition PAL and if the player can't access that you only get to watch the main feature. That's the reason you often see the question pop up, it also happens with some TVs that can't play 50hz.
