So, I got around to checking Caprica. It says "4K/25P", which indicates it is not changing the output besides upconverting it from the 1080/50i.

Yeah, I updated it when I first hooked it up.

Both my Phone & tablet recognize the player but when I push it for it to mirror the player, the player doesn't seem to get the signal.

I am assuming you are taking the steps in the right order but just to make sure:

You first click on the Two screens icons on the player.

second you find the player in your tablet or your phone and click it there.

When it works that should give you a connection. I have just tried one of my players and no problem with an HTC phone and an HP laptop.

The two 2017 sony tv's I had (only 1 now) Have given me grief with this function with the same phone and laptop. I have not updated the firmware on the tvs and that might be the problem but since I don't need it i don't worry too much.

There is a big disclaimer saying that it may not work and searching on the internet will show people have problems with all brands so I am not sure how reliable the Miracast design is.

You can always call Sony and seek advice from them but in this case it might be a waste of time. I hope you solve it.

What is "it"? Is it the player saying that or your TV? The TV will display what it's receiving, the player would display what the source is I imagine, regardless of what it's outputting.

So I went into my TV and played around with settings. I have a LG C6 and sound out is set to audio out optical, but I had to change Digital Sound Out to PCM for audio to work. HDMI CEC is off. Complete newbie with this. Am I doing something wrong??

I guess I got a lemon. Played two movies tonight, it froze again. Twice. Pretty bad experience so far. We'll see if the replacement turns out to be better.

I don't think it's a hardware issue, almost everyone is having issues with Sony freezing, some more often than others. I think it's a firmware issue and with all the wide spread reports about it, i fully expect Sony to have the issue resolve via firmware sooner rather than later. The Oppo 203 had a similar issue with random freezes that couldn't be replicated and i believe they patched that up via firmware as i don't hear about it anymore.

If that's indeed the case then I must be very unlucky. I haven't been able to watch a single movie without the player freezing at least once. I'm going to test the replacement in case it's a hardware issue. If it turns out to be a firmware issue then I'll probably return it altogether.

That's what the player says it's outputting. On a regular upscaled bluray/4k disc it says "4K/24P". The fact that it says 25P for Caprica would indicate it's just upscaling but not changing the framerate.

EDIT: To futhur add to this, on a TV DVD it says "4K/30P". I think we can conclusively say it doesn't change anything in regards to frame rate, just upscales. So the bottom line is you still need a TV capable of accepting the signal.

Mine has only froze completely twice and both were using the YouTube app, so I have stopped using it. It plays every single disc I put in it flawlessly and I just use my Apple TV 4K and Xbox One X for my streaming needs, though the X800 is the only piece I have that currently supports YouTube 4K HDR.

I had a Samsung M9500 and the only thing it did well was play UHD discs. I had problems occasionally with streaming and it flat would not play half of my standard blu-ray collection. When I returned the M9500 I was able to get the X800 brand new for a Benjamin plus tax thanks to the Best Buy manager that decided to randomly hook me up with his employee pricing. The $200+ I got back I am saving to see what new players come next year, hopefully one from Sony with DV.

I have to wait as my TV has not got it's update yet and my AVR's update got pushed till summer. This X800 has been wonderful and a steal for a high quality player to easily hold me over until I am fully ready to jump in on DV.

I accidentally dropped mine on the floor when I first got it and took a big chunk out the plastic on one side, it hasn't frozen once (but, like my TV, I don't have any of that internet shit turned on in the player so that may help).

What cables are you using to connect it? and is the sound bar connected to the tv or to the player? you might get more help if you post this on one of the threads that deal with LG Tvs instead of this one which is for a sony player.

I was just watching a Blu-ray on this player and about 1hr 22mins in the screen all of a sudden went black and the player turned off. Has this happened to anyone else?

I've read about freezing with this player for months and there's been no fix. This, not the lack of Dolby Vision, is why I have not asked for this for Christmas (though the lack of Dolby Vision didn't help). I'd rather wait to see what comes out next year. Way too many reports of freezing. I find that totally unacceptable. Meanwhile, I just got a region-B player for my region B stuff and that will keep me happy until they sort out their UHD issues hopefully next year.

I'm glad I went for the Philips. I've had no problems so far.

It would be nice to have the DV update but as I only have 2 discs with DV and not much on the horizon with DV it's not a big deal right now.

I've had this player for 7 months and I've only had freezing problems with the Westworld 100 Gig discs. The first two discs froze once or twice every episode. I cleaned the third disc with a microfibre cloth and ammonia (yes, you read well) before and the piece of cloth dumped with ammonia turned out DARK GREY/BLACK after cleaning the disc. I played the ammonia cleaned disc without a single freezing on the 4 episodes of it. I cleaned the other two discs with ammonia two and left them play while I was doing other things like internet browsing and guess what, no freezing.
Now, if a disc freezes try and clean it with whatever you trust more and play it again and see what happens.
I think those "Made In Mexico" discs don't come very clean.
