Has anyone had an issue with automatic brightness/contrast with this player? I was watching Wonder Woman 4K last night and during the night scenes the brightness and contrast increase on my 4K Sony TV, including the black bars. The daytime scenes are great, but the night scenes go back-and-forth with the brightness/contrast.

That means that under your logic if the problem is caused by the player sending a DSD signal and the sound bar and TV not being able to decode that DSD then his TV should not be playing the SACD either but he says the TV is playing it, while the sound bar is not.

In any case the DSD output in this player is set not to use DSD by default. So unless he has changed it, it should not send DSD anyway.

Since he hasn't come back we may never know what was actually happening.

It might be more than the settings on the player but you probably have it in auto.

While playing the disc option>video>direct if that doesn't solve it come back.

You are instead relying on a very questionable photograph that is included on this thread. The player you referring too is also a very common player of which they'll be thousands around. I find it odd not to find people complaining every where because that i s what would happen if the image produced by that player was only half as bad as that photo indicates.

Unless proper, verifiable information from more than one source have been provided that claim seems very hard to believe.

I find commendable that despite your fears and dis conformity with this brand of players you still seem to want one and are prepared to wait until the company produces one that complies with your specifications.

I am too disloyal with manufacturers, I would just buy another brand instead.
As far as the questionable image comparison posted on that 6500 thread, I agree, which is why I asked in there specifically for further proof/evidence that the 6500 is indeed forcing DNR. My last post in there said I find it odd that there is so little talk about this happening and it took so long for anybody to notice, as well as the very iffy nature of the images posted (pics only, not screenshots). I honestly don't know what to make of that situation in there.

I have run into situations in the past myself with the majority of people not noticing an issue I noticed and then telling me it doesn't exist only to be proven later that it does indeed exist. It's frustrating to see something that others don't notice and then claim you're wrong. But like you said, there's very little proof of the DNR claim in that thread. Which is why I'm not totally writing Sony off. I have always heard great things about Sony's picture quality, which is why I was surprised to see that thread. Then again, one of their UHD sets last year had a quality issue with the frame actually being so fragile that many forum members were opening their new box up to find the TV inside actually warped or bent - even store display models showed the issue. So even the biggest/best companies can put out problem products.

Sounds like a TV setting issue, but I'm unfamiliar with Sony TVs. I know Samsung sets have tons of "auto room lighting" menu settings that could be very annoying like the screen automatically brightening based on the room lighting or the brightness of the media being played. I always disabled them.

That did the trick. Thanks.

My Sony TV has that type of feature as well. I shut it off also.

I tried turning DSD to off, but that didn't seem to help. It is weird that the audio is coming through the TV speakers, just not through the sound bar speakers.

Default Playing SACD on X800

I have read that some older receivers need to be hooked up to the Audio Only (HDMI 2 out). I will try that. I guess I naively thought that my brand new Sony HTCT790 didn’t fall under the “older receiver” category.

How is it connected? From player a cable to TV and from TV wireless or cable to soundbar? I presume you have the TV on all the time while testing.

My current audio settings on the player are: Just played a SACD

D audio output-auto
DSD out-off
BD mix-off
DTS NEO- off
48kHZ
Dsee-off
DRC -auto
Down mix - surround

Let me know if you had any different and it works with my settings but I think it'll be related to settings on TV or bar
I have the X800 player connected to TV via an HDMI 2.0 cable.

Audio on movies and CDs sounds perfect. It was only when I tried to play an SACD disk that I couldn't get any audio out of the sound bar. But strangely, if I turned off the sound bar, the TV speakers played the audio from the SACD. How is that possible?

So regular CD's work fine? I can't look it up right now but a bit later I'll have a look to see if there is anything that comes to mind but on the main page of the player right top corner check audio settings as there might be something else I haven't mentioned regarding SACD but I don't remember exactly what.

Have you tried the settings I gave you previously?

I have a few large mkv files that are 2160p that lag heavily in my VLC player. Anyone have any experience with playing these type of large files through this player?(I'm getting one for Xmas)

You may have to try many things before solving it.

I would first connect the X800 directly to the sound bar with HDMI.

Then from the HDMI/ARC out of the soundbar to the TV input HDMI marked as arc. Let me know what happens.

When DSD is converted to PCM, its a higher bit rate PCM that your soundbar most likely cannot handle. 44.1Khz PCM is the audio format of all CD's. If you go over that bit rate for PCM your soundbar might not work. Some soundbar's can only handle 2.0 PCM and will not be able to play 5.1 PCM or 7.1 PCM. Try a stereo SACD and not a 5.1 SACD.

Hi all, I recently purchased the x800 blu-ray player. Yesterday I was playing the Inception 4K disc while using my Bluetooth headset for audio and my x900e TV for video.

I noticed there is a slight delay in the audio playback (actually I am not sure if it is the video or audio that is delayed, but they just are not in-sync).

Is this a common problem to this player? I tried playing around with the A/V sync setting and it is very hard to pinpoint the exact amount to tweak.

It's not a common problem with the player, it's a common problem with the whole bluetooth system for all brands. There is a sync setting on the player that might help you, while you are playing trhe disc, I think option>AV sync but I am not sure as I am not in front of the player.

If possible just use cable instead as the audio quality will also be reduced through bluetooth, alternatively paired with the TV bluetooth but cable is the best.

I like VLC but I find when playing in mine 4K files sttuters while window media player doesn't. You have to have a great computer and graphic card to play 4k otherwise you will have trouble. I haven't tried the player that way but unlike the computer is specifically designed to play video so it might be better with the files on disc, Through USB I wouldn't be so sure but as I've said it is only guessing I can't guarantee it.

For 4K files from a PC use this: https://mpv.io/

On a mac: you can try the mpv or this one which is built around the same player but with more of a traditional UI https://lhc70000.github.io/iina/
