Was Watching Batman Begins 4k also American Assassin 4k on my Sony Ubp-x800 and the picture just froze on both movies though Dunkirk play fine would updating to the latest firmware M36R0178 fix the problem.

Ok, I have ran a few tests for you. With SACD on my TV I also get DSD 2ch 2.8MHz/1 bit regardless of the settings but I can tell you the player is showing you the type of file is playing but it is not telling you what is actually outputting through the HDMI.

The reason I know that is because when I run it with my receiver on it displays DSD as a signal only when "digital audio output and DSD output mode are both set to "Auto" as soon as you change any of those settings the signal is PCM.

As I've said before you might need to try many things before you manage to sort this out and one of those things is to connect the player to the sound bar directly. Cortiz has posted the steps and I agree that you should try it.

As far as the three things playing nicely together you would expect it but it is not always the case and sometimes just one silly setting can be enough to stop it from working even if everything is compatible.

You can only try as many updates increase stability but generally unless you are having constantly freeze frame problems I see it more as an issue with the discs either dirty or faulty. The only disc that was stuttering on mine was a Harry Potter movie and as soon as I've exchanged it the problem was gone. I would update first anyway.

Just bought this model and I'm having issues with it. The screen will suddenly go black, and my LG TV indicates it's not receiving a signal from the player. I have to unplug/replug power to the player to restore the video signal. This has happened every time I play any type of disc... 4k/Blu-ray/DVD. Anyone else have this problem?

Is the player's firmware up to date? The TV's too? I get that very rarely with mine but as soon as a disc starts it kicks in again.

I've been having the same problem that the whole unit shuts itself down after approximately 25 minutes of playing any kind of physical disc (so far anyway) DVD Audio, SCAD, and Blu-ray i haven't actually tried to watch a 4K disc on it yet.

I suggest to both of you to download the latest firmware update and also make sure the player is not on top of something hot like a receiver or amplifier.

For Promo-cop you may also want to try a different HDMI cable.

So, I'm getting this for Christmas. Don't intend to buy 4K Blu-rays right now. Really just buying this as an upgrade from my previous Sony Blu-ray player; and I own a 4K Samsung HDTV. I also did it just in case regular Blu-rays become obsolete .

But are many of you satisfied with how this player handles regular Blu-rays? Should there be any settings I should pay attention to (other than making sure it on the "direct setting")?

I also had this happen twice with my LG OLED. I watched disc-based content for a few hours the other day without issue though.

Is there a new firmware update? Last one I did was when I purchased the player during Black Friday week. Mine doesn't connect for updates so I will need to use the USB.

I doubt there is any new update since then M36.R.0178 is the latest afaik . It's hard to pin point these problems specially when they only happen sometimes. One suggestion I have for you to try is to disengage the HDMI control feature.

Ok, hooked the X800 into the CT790 with the HDMI 2.0 cable, then went to settings for sound bar and changed that to enhanced. Still no go with the audio on the SACD.

What is the "HDMI control feature" and where can I find it? Thank you!

The HDMI control (CEC) is what allows other devices to take control over your player and other electronics connected through HDMI. It can be a bless but it can also be a nightmare when you have a lot of things inter connected as all the incompatibilities and problems can add to an existing problem. It's worth a try but unless the problem is there all the time this is only trial and error.

The TV will have this setting as well but you should try it on the player, you may not know whether it makes a difference unless it fails again but you have little to loose.

On the home screen go to setup>system settings>HDMI settings>Off

These are the last few suggestions I can offer you as I am running out of ideas.

On top of all the settings we have been discussing when you go to the set up go to music settings and make sure the SACD playback layer is set to SACD and not to CD. You have tried with more than just one SACD, right?

There is a firmware update for the soundbar that is less than a month old and it sounds like there were others before. Try updating it but if it doesn't solve it it may be time to call Sony and see what they have to say. Please double check I've got your model right and please do let us know if any of this solve the problem.

I just got this player from my family for Christmas. I look forward to hooking it up to my LG 65" 4K LED tomorrow.

Other than direct, nothing else in particular. the player upscales very nicely for me but if you don't like it you can always set it to output the original resolution and let the TV do the upscaling. There are a couple of other settings but they don't really change the results.

Impressed so far. I gave Blade Runner and Cars 3 a spin and they both look great although I think difference in the BD and UHD of Blade Runner was more pronounced due to it being film instead of animation.
