Well, I managed to fix my problem. Hell yes! Thanks to cochon for his advice.

As always with these things, the problem was something obvious but you can't see it until you step back and take a breath . Wasn't an X800 problem in the end. Basically, my Denon AV Receiver hates it when the TV's HDMI Ports are set to enhanced, so I sent X800 video straight to the TV (HDMI 2 - Enhanced) and the audio to the Receiver via the X800's second 'audio only' port.

The reason that didn't work when it absolutely should have in theory was that I still had the Receiver plugged into HDMI 3 on the TV, which on course would also be set automatically to.......enhanced. Duh! So the X800 still couldn't tell that audio was being sent elsewhere and it continued to send both video and audio via its primary port.

Plugged the Receiver into HDMI 4 (not enhanced) and hey presto, lossless audio via the Receiver and crisp, sexy video at the same time.

Merry Christmas to all. To celebrate my victory, i'm going to order Logan Lucky and American Made on UHD.

My Denon receiver had trouble relaying the 4K signal to the TV when the TV's HDMI ports are set to 'enhanced' - just outputs as snow. It's fine when when they're set to 'standard' and displays as 4K/24p HDR - looks fantastic but ideally I want enhanced soooo..

I thought the easiest thing to do would be to send video straight to the TV so I can have the HDMI port 'enhanced' and send the audio to the receiver via the second 'audio only' HDMI port on the X800.

Trouble is I can't get any sound from the receiver when I do this. Everything else works Roku, Blu-ray player, even the X800 when both video and audio are sent through the same cable so the receiver itself is fine. Tried different ports and cables plus the usual cursing and throwing things

But are many of you satisfied with how this player handles regular Blu-rays? Should there be any settings I should pay attention to (other than making sure it on the "direct setting")?
One of the best things about this player is how it upscales regular blu-rays.

1) Make sure you turn BD Audio MIX Setting to 'Off' so you get lossless audio.

2) On my set-up I have to set the 4K Upscale Setting to 'Auto 2' to get the player to upscale blu-rays to 4K. If I don't, it sends a 1080p signal to the TV and the TV does the upscaling. Both options are fine but I much prefer the upscaling of the player to the TV.

Enjoy

Just turn off manual update as I had this issue as well.

I just got my first UHD player (Sony X800) stuck in Dunkirk UHD and about 5 minutes in the picture froze for about 10 seconds, then carried on playing for a few seconds then the screen went pixellated and green, then carried on etc etc etc.

Is this a common problem or is there some remedy?

PS, player updated to latest firmware today before I attempted to watch the film.

PPS, just taken out the disc. Its spotless, like a blemish-free mirror.

No common problem. However these Nolan discs cause problems for more people. Hopefully Sony can fix this with a new firmware update. Last firmware was back in September....

I made Sony aware that these Nolan discs cause problems around the world. Please people, send in that feedback.

I have the X1000es. I'have had a couple of freezes with regular BD's and 4K discs as well, however, i recently finished watching all the Nolan's discs and they all played flawlessly.

Loving the player so far! Although I had to turn off the wifi on the player. Was taking A LOT of juice lol.

Laptop, tablets and iPhones all slowed down. Doesn't matter, we use the Apple TV for streaming anyway; so I just need it to play Blu-rays

My PC is hooked up wired so I don't have to worry about this. I also use my 4K TV to stream straight to my receiver for VUDU and Amazon.

How do I turn the wifi on the X-800 off? I've searched for this option on my Euro model and I don't see it.

I dont think you can but you can chose not to connect. on the home page go to set up at the bottom (scroll) there are network settings. Set everything you wish to off and on Iternet settings make sure you are not connected.

You won't be able to get your updates from the internet if you turn off your Wi-Fi. To be able to get your firmware updates and access your streaming apps, you must be connected to the internet.

I'm a noob to this but have to ask. Does anyone know if this player can be made region free? Can I send it somewhere and have that done?
Thanks in advance.

There are people selling modified players so the answer is yes but I think you'll be lucky to find a place that does it for you.

You could still update via USB. I'm sure we all have multiple things that do streaming apps, so that's not really a huge loss.

Do you?

I just grabbed one from my cupboard I got 10+ years ago...? Does it make a difference?

Just out of curiosity sake, does anybody know what the difference is between auto1 and auto2 for the HDR?

I'm not sure if I can see a difference.
