If it's not a high speed cable, you can get dropouts and not get the full benefits of HDR. Doesn't have to be expensive though, you can get from monoprice for 7$ shipped.

My Sony BluRay player, BDP-360 is dieing a slow death. It takes multiple retries to get it to read blurays. I was given a $50 Amazon gift card for Christmas. I also noticed a $100 discount of Sony's 4K player, a UBP-X800 on Amazon. With taxes in I snagged one for $176 CDN.

How does that work then with an older TV? I have a Sony TV from 2010 (40" 4500 series). I know really I should be rocking a proper 4K and hope to soon, however should it work with this TV in the meantime? Reason I ask is that I tried the player on the TV a few days ago and it whilst playing the screen all scrambled up into a pixellated mess. |

![]() that previous statement to which you replied is not quite correct as it not only depends on another setting (HDMI output) but also Auto 1 is still upscaling DVD's on sony tvs and everything on other brands according to the othersetting I've mentioned. As for your question is a matter of your personal choice and how your tv upscales compared to the player, I like the player's upscaling. Last edited by cochon; 12-27-2017 at 08:36 PM. |

What you have to play with is the HDMI output setting. Try 4K vs original resolution. You might want to try several discs to make sure as you will get different results with some DVDs the BD's are probably going to give you more similar results. Whatever you do for this comparison also make sure while playing a disc press options>video settings> and select direct otherwise you'll have DNR on and it will give you the wrong impression. In your case that you use a receiver in between, I would switch off any signal processing on the receiver side and leave everything to pass through because this can also affect the results. |

It sounds right but if the TV has the option to show you what signal is being displayed press and check that as well, it should confirm HDR signal plus 3840x2160 resolution.
